1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the SNDOAS GF3990S 36-inch Under Cabinet Range Hood. This manual provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your new range hood. Please read it thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.

This range hood is designed to effectively remove smoke, steam, and cooking odors from your kitchen, ensuring a cleaner and more comfortable cooking environment. It features a versatile design allowing for both ducted and ductless ventilation options.

2. Important Safety Information

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, observe the following:

  • Install this range hood in accordance with all specified instructions.
  • Ensure the electrical supply matches the voltage and frequency requirements (110-120V/60Hz).
  • Always disconnect power before servicing or cleaning the unit.
  • Do not operate any fan with a damaged cord or plug. Discard fan or return to an authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
  • Adequate ventilation is required for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent back-drafting.
  • When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
  • Ductwork must always be vented to the outdoors.
  • Clean grease filters frequently. Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on fan or filter.
  • Never leave surface units unattended at high settings. Boil-over causes smoking and greasy spill-overs that may ignite.
  • Use appropriate size cookware on each burner.

5. Installation

The SNDOAS GF3990S range hood offers flexible installation options: ducted (vented to the outside) or ductless (recirculating air). It is designed for under-cabinet mounting.

5.1 Choosing Your Ventilation Method

  • Ductless (Recirculating) Installation: This is the default setup. The included carbon sponge filter (Part # CF-3976) purifies the air before recirculating it back into the kitchen. No external ductwork is required.
  • Ducted (Vented) Installation: For external venting, you will need to purchase an aluminum exhaust pipe separately. The hood provides two venting outlets: a 7-inch round top vent and a 9.9"x3.1" rectangular rear vent. Choose the appropriate outlet based on your kitchen's existing ductwork or new installation plan.

5.2 Electrical Connection

The range hood defaults to hard-wired installation. If you prefer a plug-in mounted setup, you will need to purchase a power cord kit (Part # PCK-GF3976) separately.

CAUTION: All electrical work must be performed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with all applicable codes and standards.

6. Operation

The SNDOAS GF3990S range hood is equipped with simple rocker switches for controlling the fan speed and lighting.

6.1 Fan Control

The fan features two speed settings to accommodate various cooking needs:

  • Low Speed: Ideal for light cooking, simmering, or when minimal ventilation is required.
  • High Speed: Provides maximum airflow (up to 230 CFM) for heavy cooking, frying, or when strong odors are present.

Use the rocker switch labeled with fan icons to select your desired fan speed.

6.2 Lighting Control

The range hood includes a 2-watt LED light located at the front to provide additional illumination for your cooking area.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your range hood.

7.1 Cleaning the Exterior

The stainless steel brushed finish is designed for easy cleaning. Simply wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that could scratch the finish.

7.2 Filter Maintenance

The range hood is equipped with a 3-layer aluminum mesh filter that includes a carbon sponge (Part # CF-3976). This filter is crucial for capturing grease and filtering odors, especially in ductless mode.

  • Cleaning Aluminum Mesh Filters: The aluminum mesh filters should be cleaned regularly (e.g., monthly, depending on cooking frequency) to prevent grease buildup. They can typically be washed by hand with warm, soapy water or placed in a dishwasher. Ensure they are completely dry before re-installing.
  • Replacing Carbon Sponge Filters: For effective odor filtration in ductless mode, the carbon sponge filter (Part # CF-3976) should be replaced every 3-6 months, depending on your cooking habits and kitchen conditions. Accumulated grease and odors will reduce its effectiveness.
