3. Setup
3.1 Initial Charging
Before first use, fully charge the FiiO BTR17. Connect the device to a USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter) using the provided USB-C cable. The charging indicator will show the charging status.
3.2 Connecting to Devices
The BTR17 offers three primary connection modes: PC (USB DAC), BT (Bluetooth DAC/AMP), and PHONE (Smartphone Tail DAC/AMP). Use the physical switch on the side of the device to select the desired mode.
3.2.1 Bluetooth Mode (BT)
- Switch the mode selector to "BT".
- On your source device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
- Select "FiiO BTR17" from the list to pair.
- Once paired, audio from your source device will be transmitted wirelessly to the BTR17.

3.2.2 PC Mode (USB DAC)
- Switch the mode selector to "PC".
- Connect the BTR17 to your computer using the USB-C cable.
- The computer should recognize the BTR17 as an audio output device. Select it in your system's sound settings.
- For optimal performance, FiiO may provide specific drivers for Windows. Refer to the FiiO official website for driver downloads if necessary.
3.2.3 PHONE Mode (Smartphone Tail DAC/AMP)
- Switch the mode selector to "PHONE".
- Connect the BTR17 to your smartphone using a compatible USB-C to USB-C cable (or appropriate adapter).
- The BTR17 will function as an external DAC/AMP for your smartphone.
3.3 Desktop Mode (D.Mode)
The BTR17 features a dedicated Desktop Mode (D.Mode) switch. When activated and an external power supply is connected to the dedicated power input (Sub Type-C port), the BTR17 will draw power directly from the external source. This prevents the internal battery from being used, charged, or discharged, and allows for maximum power output (up to 650mW) without draining the connected smartphone's battery.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
5.2 Storage
Store the BTR17 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. When not in use for extended periods, ensure the device is fully charged before storage and periodically recharge it to maintain battery health.
5.3 Battery Care
The BTR17's Desktop Mode helps preserve battery life by bypassing the internal battery when an external power source is connected. This prevents overcharging and overdischarging, which can extend the battery's lifespan.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 No Sound Output
- Ensure the BTR17 is powered on and fully charged.
- Check that the correct mode (PC/BT/PHONE) is selected.
- Verify that the volume on both the BTR17 and your source device is turned up.
- Confirm that your headphones are properly connected to the 3.5mm or 4.4mm output.
- If using Bluetooth, ensure the BTR17 is paired and connected to your source device. Try re-pairing.
- If using PC mode, ensure the BTR17 is selected as the default audio output device in your computer's sound settings.
6.2 Connection Issues
- Bluetooth: Move the BTR17 closer to the source device. Avoid obstacles that may interfere with the signal. Try forgetting the device on your source and re-pairing.
- USB: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected at both ends. Try a different USB port or cable.
6.3 Device Not Responding
If the device becomes unresponsive, try performing a soft reset by pressing and holding the power button for an extended period (e.g., 10-15 seconds) until it powers off, then power it back on.
6.4 Safety Features
The BTR17 includes built-in temperature and DC output detection to prevent damage to the device and connected headphones. It also features a volume limit function to protect against accidental loud volumes and hearing damage. If the device detects abnormal conditions, it may shut down or limit output.
