6.1. Chain and Guide Bar Installation

Follow these steps for correct chain and guide bar installation:

  1. Open the side cover using the provided wrench.
  2. Install the wood tooth (also known as a bumper spike) onto the chainsaw body.
  3. Position the guide bar onto the studs.
  4. Carefully install the saw chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting teeth face the correct direction (forward, away from the engine).
  5. Close the side cover and hand-tighten the nuts.
  6. Adjust the chain tension: The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. The distance between the chain bottom and the guide bar should be 2-4 mm.
  7. Once tension is correct, fully tighten the side cover nuts.

6.2. Fuel and Oil Filling

This chainsaw requires a specific fuel mixture and chain oil. Always use fresh, clean fuel and oil.

  • Fuel Mixture: Use a 40:1 fuel-to-oil ratio. This means 40 parts gasoline to 1 part two-stroke engine oil.
  • Engine Oil: Use two-stroke engine oil, grade FB or higher.
  • Gasoline: Use 92# (92 octane) gasoline.
  • Fill the fuel tank with the correctly mixed fuel.
  • Fill the oil tank with appropriate chain lubricant.

7. Operating Instructions

The following video demonstrates the cold start and hot start procedures for the chainsaw, as well as chain replacement and troubleshooting.

Video 1: VEVOR Gas Chainsaw operation and maintenance guide. This video covers cold start, hot start, troubleshooting, and chain replacement.

7.1. Cold Start Procedure (Refer to Video 1, 0:06-0:20)

Use this procedure when the engine is cold or has not been run for several hours.

  1. Pull out the choke lever.
  2. Turn on the engine switch.
  3. Pull the starter cord 7-10 times until the engine briefly fires or attempts to start.
  4. Push the choke lever back in (close the choke).
  5. Pull the starter cord again 7-10 times until the engine starts and runs smoothly.

7.2. Hot Start Procedure (Refer to Video 1, 0:21-0:26)

Use this procedure when the engine is warm or has been recently run.

  1. Turn on the engine switch.
  2. Pull the starter cord 7-10 times until the engine starts. The choke is typically not needed for a hot start.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.

8.1. Chain Replacement (Refer to Video 1, 0:56-1:37)

Replace the chain when it becomes dull or damaged. Follow the same steps as initial chain installation (Section 6.1).

8.2. Air Filter Maintenance (Refer to Video 1, 0:38-0:42)

A clean air filter is essential for optimal engine performance.

  1. Remove the air filter cover.
  2. Remove the air filter element.
  3. Clean the air filter by tapping out loose debris or washing it with warm, soapy water if it's heavily soiled. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstallation.
  4. Reinstall the clean air filter and cover.

8.3. Spark Plug Replacement (Refer to Video 1, 0:43-0:55)

If the chainsaw is difficult to start or runs poorly, the spark plug may need inspection or replacement.

  1. Remove the spark plug cap.
  2. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug.
  3. Inspect the old spark plug for wear, carbon buildup, or damage.
  4. Install a new spark plug, ensuring it is the correct type and gapped properly according to manufacturer specifications.
  5. Hand-tighten the new spark plug, then use the wrench for a final snug turn. Do not overtighten.
  6. Reattach the spark plug cap.

9. Troubleshooting

If your chainsaw encounters issues, consult the following common troubleshooting steps. For more detailed visual guidance, refer to Video 1 (0:27-0:55).

9.1. Chainsaw Won't Start

  • Check Fuel: Ensure the fuel tank contains the correct 40:1 fuel-to-oil mixture and that the fuel is fresh. Stale fuel can cause starting problems.
  • Starting Procedure: Verify that you are following the correct cold or hot start procedure as outlined in Section 7.
  • Air Filter: Confirm the air filter is clean and not clogged. A dirty air filter can restrict airflow and prevent starting. (See Section 8.2)
  • Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug. It might be fouled, damaged, or incorrectly gapped. Replace if necessary. (See Section 8.3)

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information, product registration, or technical support, please refer to the documentation included with your purchase or visit the official SALEM MASTER website. Keep your proof of purchase for any warranty claims.
