1. Introduction

The Graigar DT-2268 is a high-performance, multi-function digital tachometer that combines both Photo (non-contact) and Contact measurement capabilities. 2. Safety Information

WARNING: Laser Radiation

This device uses a Class II laser. Do not stare into the laser beam. Avoid direct eye exposure. Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The DT-2268 requires 4 x 1.5V 'AA' batteries (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the device.
  2. Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
  3. Insert four 'AA' batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

The device powers on automatically when the Measurement Trigger is pressed and held. Release the trigger to power off the device.

6.2 Selecting Measurement Mode (Photo/Contact)

Use the Function Switch located on the front panel to select between 'PHOTO' (non-contact) and 'CONTACT' measurement modes.

6.3 Photo Tachometer (Non-Contact) Measurement

  1. Ensure the Function Switch is set to 'PHOTO'.
  2. Attach a piece of reflective tape (included) to the rotating object whose RPM you wish to measure.
  3. Hold the tachometer approximately 50 to 500 mm (2 to 20 inches) from the target object.
  4. Press and hold the Measurement Trigger. Aim the laser beam at the reflective tape.
  5. The RPM reading will be displayed on the LCD. Adjust the distance until a stable reading is obtained.
  6. Release the Measurement Trigger to stop measuring.

6.4 Contact Tachometer Measurement

  1. Ensure the Function Switch is set to 'CONTACT'.
  2. Select the appropriate contact adapter (cone, funnel, or wheel) and firmly attach it to the contact adapter shaft at the top of the device.
  3. For RPM measurement: Press the cone or funnel adapter firmly against the center of the rotating shaft.
  4. For surface speed (m/min, ft/min) or length (m, ft) measurement: Use the wheel adapter and press it firmly against the surface to be measured. Use the Unit Switch to select the desired unit.
  5. Press and hold the Measurement Trigger. The reading will be displayed on the LCD.
  6. Release the Measurement Trigger to stop measuring.

6.5 Memory Function

The DT-2268 automatically stores the last, maximum, and minimum measured values during a measurement session.

  • After completing a measurement, press the 'MEMORY' button.
  • Each press of the 'MEMORY' button will cycle through the stored values: LAST, MAX, MIN.
  • The corresponding indicator (LAST, MAX, MIN) will appear on the display.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent, then wipe dry.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals.
  • Keep the laser emitter and photo sensor clean and free of dust or debris for accurate readings.

7.2 Storage

  • Store the device in its carrying case when not in use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
