3. Setup and Connection

To begin using your USB C Tester, follow these simple connection steps:

  1. Connect the USB-C male end of the tester to the power source (e.g., wall charger, power bank, laptop USB-C port).
  2. Connect your device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) to the USB-C female port on the tester using a compatible USB-C cable.
  3. Once both input and output ports are connected, the tester's LED display will light up and begin showing real-time measurement data.

Important Note on PD Protocol Limitations: Due to Power Delivery (PD) protocol requirements, the USB-C tester's screen will only activate and display data if both the input (power source) and output (device being charged) ports are properly connected. If only one side is connected, the screen will remain off.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. LED Color Display Interface

The USB C Power Meter features a high-resolution LED color display that provides clear and comprehensive data. It can display various parameters simultaneously, including:

  • Voltage (V)
  • Current (A)
  • Power (W)
  • Capacity (mAh)
  • Energy (mWh)
  • Working Time (T)
  • Current Direction
  • CPU Temperature
  • D+/D- Voltage

4.2. Button Functions

The device operates with a single multi-function button:

  • Single Click: Click the button once to cycle through the different display screens.
  • Double Click: Double-click the button to rotate the displayed content on the current screen, allowing for better viewing angles.
  • Press and Hold (3 seconds): Press and hold the button for approximately 3 seconds to clear all accumulated capacity, energy, and timing data. This is useful for starting new measurement cycles.

4.3. Bidirectional Current Test

The USB C Tester supports bidirectional current testing, which simplifies the process of analyzing charging data regardless of the current flow direction. This feature is particularly useful when testing devices that can both receive and supply power.

4.4. Testing Power Bank Capacity

To accurately measure the capacity of a power bank using the tester, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the power bank is fully discharged before starting the test.
  2. Plug the USB tester into the power bank's output port.
  3. Long press the button (3 seconds) on the tester to reset all capacity and energy data.
  4. Connect the power bank to a USB charger via the tester's input port.
  5. Keep the power bank charging until it reaches 100% capacity.
  6. Read the accumulated capacity data (mAh) displayed on the tester after the full charge cycle is complete.

Formula for Power Bank Battery Capacity (mAh):
Capacity (mAh) = Wh / 3.75V x 1000 x 90%
(Note: 3.75V is the default battery voltage for calculation.)

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your USB C Tester, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the screen or internal components.
  • Storage: Store the tester in its provided storage case when not in use to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Connectivity: Ensure the USB-C connectors are free from debris before plugging them in. The antioxidant input port is designed for durability, but proper care extends its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Screen Does Not Light Up:
Solution: Ensure that both the input (power source) and output (device being charged) ports are connected. The tester's screen will only activate when both sides are properly engaged due to PD protocol limitations. Refer to Section 3 for correct connection methods.
  • Inaccurate Readings or No Reading for Low Power Devices:
Observation: The tester may not display readings for very low current consumption (e.g., below 1mA), and the timer/mAh accumulation might not function in such scenarios.
Explanation: This device is designed for a range of 0-6.5A. While it measures down to low currents, its practical resolution for extremely low power devices (e.g., micro-amps for deep sleep cycles) may be limited. For such precise low-power measurements, specialized equipment like a multimeter might be more suitable.
  • Display Content Not Rotating:
Solution: Double-click the button to rotate the displayed content. A single click cycles through different screens.
  • Data Not Clearing:
Solution: Press and hold the button for approximately 3 seconds to clear all accumulated capacity, energy, and timing data. Ensure you hold it long enough for the reset to occur.
