4. Safety Information
Please observe the following safety precautions to prevent damage to the product or injury to yourself and others:
- Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or extreme temperatures.
- Do not touch the flash tube or modeling lamp immediately after use, as they can be hot.
- Ensure the unit is properly grounded when connected to a power source.
- Always disconnect power before cleaning or performing maintenance.
- Avoid direct eye exposure to the flash, as it can cause temporary vision impairment.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Use only NEEWER-approved accessories and power cords.
5. Setup Instructions
5.1 Assembling the Light Stand
- Extend the legs of the light stand to form a stable base.
- Tighten the locking knob at the base to secure the legs.
- Extend the center column to the desired height and tighten the section locking knobs.
5.2 Mounting the Monolight
- Attach the S102-400W PRO monolight to the top stud of the light stand.
- Secure the monolight by tightening the mounting screw on the monolight's bracket.
- Adjust the tilt angle of the monolight using the tilt adjustment knob.
5.3 Attaching Light Modifiers (Softbox/Reflector)
- To attach a softbox, assemble the softbox according to its specific instructions.
- Align the Bowens mount ring of the softbox with the Bowens mount on the monolight.
- Insert the softbox and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place.
- For the standard reflector, align its tabs with the slots on the Bowens mount and twist to lock.
5.4 Connecting Power
- Connect the power cord to the power input port on the monolight.
- Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable AC power outlet.
5.5 Setting up the 2.4G Trigger
- Insert the 2.4G trigger onto your camera's hot shoe.
- Power on the trigger and the monolight.
- Set the same channel and group on both the trigger and the monolight for wireless communication. Refer to the monolight's display and trigger's controls for specific adjustments.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
- To power on the monolight, flip the power switch located on the rear panel.
- To power off, flip the switch back to the OFF position.
6.2 Adjusting Flash Power
- Use the adjustment knob on the monolight's control panel to increase or decrease the flash power. The power levels range from 4.0 to 10 (1/64 to 1/1).
- The current power setting will be displayed on the LCD screen.
6.3 Adjusting Modeling Lamp Brightness
- Press the "Modeling Light" button (often labeled with a light bulb icon) to activate the modeling lamp.

6.4 Wireless Triggering (2.4G System)
- Ensure the monolight and trigger are set to the same group (GR) and channel (CH).
- The trigger will wirelessly fire the monolight when your camera's shutter is released.
- For high-speed sync (HSS), ensure your camera and trigger support this function and are configured correctly.
6.5 Optical Slave Modes (S1/S2)
- S1 Mode: The monolight will fire in response to the first flash it detects from a master flash unit (manual flash).
- S2 Mode: The monolight will ignore the first pre-flash from a TTL master flash unit and fire on the second flash. This is useful when using a camera's built-in flash or another TTL flash as a master.
- To activate S1/S2 mode, press the S1/S2 button on the monolight's control panel.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the monolight and accessories. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. For the flash tube and modeling lamp, use a lint-free cloth.
- Storage: When not in use, store the kit in the provided carrying bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Inspection: Regularly check power cords and connections for any signs of damage. If any damage is found, discontinue use and contact customer support.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Monolight does not power on. | Power cord not connected; power outlet faulty; power switch off. | Ensure power cord is securely connected. Test power outlet with another device. Verify power switch is in the ON position. |
| Flash does not fire wirelessly. | Incorrect channel/group settings; trigger not properly mounted; trigger battery low. | Set monolight and trigger to the same channel and group. Ensure trigger is securely mounted on camera hot shoe. Replace trigger batteries if applicable. |
| Flash fires inconsistently or not at all in S1/S2 mode. | Ambient light interference; master flash too weak or too far; incorrect S1/S2 mode selected. | Reduce ambient light. Ensure master flash is strong enough and within range. Select appropriate S1 (manual master) or S2 (TTL master) mode. |
| Monolight overheats. | Excessive continuous use at high power; blocked ventilation. | Allow the unit to cool down. Ensure ventilation openings are not obstructed. Reduce flash frequency or power output. |
