1. Product Overview

The Winix 5510 Air Purifier is designed to provide clean and healthy indoor air. It features a comprehensive 4-stage air purification system that effectively removes 99.99% of airborne particles as small as 0.01 microns. This system includes a Washable Fine Mesh Pre-Filter, an Advanced Odor Control (AOC) Carbon Filter, a True HEPA Filter, and Winix's PlasmaWave® Technology.

The unit is equipped with Smart Sensors that continuously monitor the air quality in your environment, providing real-time visual feedback. In Auto Mode, the fan speed automatically adjusts based on detected air quality, ensuring efficient operation. For quiet nighttime use, Sleep Mode activates automatically in darkened rooms.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety instructions carefully before operating the Winix 5510 Air Purifier to prevent injury or damage to the unit.

  • Always unplug the air purifier before moving, cleaning, or performing any maintenance.
  • Do not operate the unit with a damaged power cord or plug. If the cord or plug is damaged, contact customer support.
  • Keep the air purifier away from water and other liquids. Do not use in bathrooms or other humid environments.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the unit. Do not block air inlets or outlets.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • Do not insert fingers or foreign objects into the air inlets or outlets.
  • Use only genuine Winix replacement filters.
  • Do not use the unit near flammable gases or combustible materials.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Placement

  1. Carefully remove the air purifier from its packaging.
  2. Place the unit on a firm, level surface at least 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) away from walls and furniture to ensure proper airflow.
  3. Ensure the power cord is not pinched or placed under heavy objects.

4.2 Filter Installation

The filters are typically pre-installed in the unit, but they may be wrapped in plastic for shipping. Remove all plastic packaging from the filters before use.

  1. Gently pull the front panel of the air purifier to remove it. It is secured by magnets.
  2. Remove the Washable Fine Mesh Pre-Filter, Advanced Odor Control Carbon Filter, and True HEPA Filter.
  3. Remove any plastic packaging from all filters.
  4. Insert the True HEPA Filter first, ensuring it is oriented correctly.
  5. Next, insert the Advanced Odor Control Carbon Filter on top of the HEPA filter.
  6. Finally, place the Washable Fine Mesh Pre-Filter back into position, ensuring it snaps firmly into place.
  7. Reattach the front panel by aligning it and allowing the magnets to secure it.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Control Panel Overview

The control panel is located on the top of the unit and features intuitive touch controls and indicator lights.

5.2 Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Press the Power button (Power icon) to turn the unit on or off.
  • Fan Speed: Press the Fan Speed button (Fan icon) to cycle through fan speeds: Low, Medium, High, Turbo.
  • Auto Mode: Press the Auto button to enable automatic fan speed adjustment based on air quality. The unit will automatically adjust between Low, Medium, High, and Turbo.
  • Sleep Mode: When in Auto Mode, the unit will automatically enter Sleep Mode when the room is dark, operating at the lowest fan speed and dimming indicator lights for quiet operation.
  • PlasmaWave®: Press the PlasmaWave button (PlasmaWave icon) to enable or disable the PlasmaWave function.
  • Air Quality Indicator: The LED light bar on the control panel changes color to indicate current air quality: Green (Good), Orange (Fair), Red (Poor).

5.3 WiFi and Smart App Connectivity

The Winix 5510 features WiFi connectivity, allowing you to control and monitor your unit remotely via the Winix Smart App. Refer to the separate Winix Smart App guide for detailed instructions on pairing and using the app.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your air purifier.

6.1 Filter Cleaning and Replacement

The Filter Replacement Indicator LED will illuminate when it's time to replace the filters. Filters typically last up to one year, but this can vary based on usage and air quality.

  • Washable Fine Mesh Pre-Filter: This filter should be cleaned regularly (e.g., every 2-4 weeks) by vacuuming or rinsing with water. Ensure it is completely dry before re-installing.
  • Advanced Odor Control Carbon Filter & True HEPA Filter: These filters are not washable and should be replaced when the indicator light illuminates. Follow the steps in Section 4.2 for replacement.

6.2 Exterior Cleaning

Wipe the exterior of the air purifier with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your Winix 5510 Air Purifier, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
