4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your wood chipper.

Pre-Operation Checklist

  • Ensure all assembly steps are complete and secure.
  • Verify the collection bin is correctly installed and locked.
  • Inspect the power cord for any damage.
  • Clear the work area of any obstacles, debris, or personnel.
  • Wear all recommended personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, dust mask).

Starting and Feeding

  1. Connect Power: Plug the chipper into a suitable grounded electrical outlet.
  2. Start Machine: Turn the power switch to the 'ON' position. Allow the motor to reach full speed before feeding material.
  3. Feed Material: Gradually feed branches and twigs into the appropriate feeding chute. The chipper can handle branches up to 1.8 inches in diameter. Use the main chute for larger branches and the secondary chute for smaller twigs and soft debris.
  4. A hand feeding a branch into the STEELITE Electric Wood Chipper's hopper, illustrating the 1.8-inch maximum cutting diameter.

  5. Use Feeding Paddle: For smaller or stubborn material, use the provided feeding paddle to push material into the blades. Never use your hands or feet.
  6. Avoid Overloading: Do not force material into the chipper. Allow the machine to process material at its own pace to prevent jamming and motor strain.
  7. Safety Interlock: The chipper is equipped with a safety interlock. If the collection bin is removed or not properly secured, the machine will automatically power off or prevent starting.

  9. Stopping: To stop the chipper, turn the power switch to the 'OFF' position. Disconnect from the power supply when finished or before any maintenance.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your chipper. Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance.

Cleaning

  • After each use, disconnect the power cord.
  • Carefully open the chipper housing (if applicable and safe to do so per design) and clear any accumulated wood chips or debris from the blade area and discharge chute. Wood chips can get stuck inside and affect performance.
  • Clean the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

Blade Inspection and Replacement

  • Regularly inspect the dual SK5 steel blades for signs of dullness, nicks, or damage. Dull blades reduce efficiency and can strain the motor.
  • If blades are dull or damaged, they should be replaced. For replacement blades and instructions, please contact STEELITE customer support. Sharpening blades is not recommended without specific guidance from the manufacturer.

Storage

  • Store the chipper in a dry, secure location, away from moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Ensure the power cord is neatly coiled and stored to prevent damage.
