5. Operating Instructions

5.1 General Use

Connect your 12V devices to the battery using either the M5 terminals or the DC port. Ensure that the total current draw of your devices does not exceed the battery's maximum continuous discharge current (30A). The battery's internal BMS will protect against overcurrent conditions.

5.2 Low-Temperature Operation

The battery features intelligent freeze protection. If the ambient temperature drops below -20°C (-4°F), the battery will stop discharging. If the temperature drops below -7°C (19.4°F), it will stop charging. Operation will resume automatically once the temperature rises to 0°C (32°F).

6. Charging Instructions

Important: This battery must be charged with a lithium-compatible charger only. Do NOT use a lead-acid charger. Using an incompatible charger may cause improper charging, trigger BMS protection, or damage the battery.

6.1 Recommended Chargers

  • Use a dedicated LiFePO4 battery charger with a voltage output of 14.6V.
  • The DC port supports 5A fast charging, allowing a full charge in approximately 6 hours with a compatible 5A charger.
  • Solar panels can also be used with an appropriate MPPT solar charge controller.

6.2 Charging Procedure

  1. Ensure the charger is compatible with LiFePO4 batteries and matches the battery's voltage requirements (14.6V).
  2. Connect the charger to the battery's terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative) or to the DC port, depending on your charger type.
  3. Plug the charger into a power source.
  4. Monitor the charging process. The battery's BMS will manage the charging parameters.
  5. Charge within safe temperatures: 32°F - 131°F (0°C - 55°C).

7. Capacity Expansion (Series and Parallel Connection)

DC HOUSE LiFePO4 batteries can be connected in series or parallel to achieve desired voltage or capacity. This allows for versatile setups such as 2P2S, 2P3S, 2P4S, 3P2S, and 4P2S.

Important: The total number of batteries connected in series and parallel at the same time cannot exceed 8.

7.1 Parallel Connection (for Longer Runtime)

Connecting batteries in parallel increases the total capacity (Ah) while maintaining the same voltage (V). Ensure all batteries are of the same voltage and capacity before connecting. Use appropriate bus bars or cables for parallel connections.

7.2 Series Connection (for Higher Voltage)

Connecting batteries in series increases the total voltage (V) while maintaining the same capacity (Ah). Ensure all batteries are of the same voltage and capacity before connecting. Connect the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of the next.

8. Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check the battery for any physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion on the terminals. Clean terminals if necessary.
  • Storage: If storing the battery for an extended period, ensure it is charged to approximately 50% state of charge. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cleaning: Use a dry cloth to wipe the battery casing. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Temperature Management: Avoid operating or storing the battery in temperatures outside its specified range to ensure optimal performance and lifespan.

9. Troubleshooting

9.1 Battery Not Charging

  • Check Charger Compatibility: Ensure you are using a LiFePO4 compatible charger. Lead-acid chargers are not suitable.
  • Verify Connections: Confirm that the charger is securely connected to the battery terminals with correct polarity.
  • Temperature Check: The BMS will prevent charging if the battery temperature is below 19.4°F (-7°C). Move the battery to a warmer environment if necessary.
  • BMS Activation: If the battery was deeply discharged (0V at terminals), it might require a charger with a 'wake-up' function to reactivate the BMS.

9.2 Battery Not Discharging

  • Check Connections: Ensure all device connections are secure and correct.
  • Overcurrent Protection: The BMS may have triggered overcurrent protection if the load exceeded 30A. Disconnect the load, wait a few minutes, and try again with a lower load.
  • Low Voltage Cut-off: The BMS will stop discharging if the battery voltage drops too low. Recharge the battery.
  • Temperature Check: The BMS will prevent discharging if the battery temperature is below -4°F (-20°C). Move the battery to a warmer environment.

9.3 Reduced Runtime

  • Check Load: Verify the power consumption of your devices. Higher loads will result in shorter runtimes.
  • Battery Age/Cycles: While designed for long life, all batteries degrade over time.
  • Charging Habits: Ensure the battery is consistently charged to full capacity.

If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please contact DC HOUSE customer support.
