1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the installation, function, and maintenance of your SCITOO Engine Motor and Transmission Mount Set. Engine mounts are critical components designed to secure the engine and transmission within the vehicle chassis while absorbing vibrations and shocks generated by the powertrain. This ensures a smoother ride and reduces stress on other vehicle components.

2. Compatibility

This SCITOO Engine Motor and Transmission Mount Set is specifically designed for the following vehicle models:

  • Mazda 6: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
  • Mazda CX-5: 2014, 2015, 2016

4. Installation

This engine mount set is designed for direct replacement of original equipment (OE) parts. While direct replacement simplifies the process, professional installation is highly recommended due to the critical nature of these components and the complexities involved in accessing and replacing them.

4.1 General Installation Guidelines:

  1. Safety First: Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands or a lift. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Engine Support: Properly support the engine and transmission using a jack with a wooden block or specialized engine support tool to prevent movement during mount removal.
  3. Locate and Remove Old Mounts: Identify the specific mount to be replaced (Front Right Motor Mount, Transmission Mount, Rear Torque Strut Mount). Carefully unbolt and remove the old mount. Note the orientation of the old mount for correct installation of the new one.
  4. Install New Mounts: Position the new SCITOO mount in place. Ensure all bolts align correctly. Hand-tighten bolts initially.
  5. Torque to Specifications: Refer to your vehicle's service manual for the correct torque specifications for each bolt. Tighten all bolts to the manufacturer's recommended torque.
  6. Final Checks: Lower the engine/transmission support slowly. Reconnect the battery. Start the vehicle and check for any unusual noises or vibrations.

Note: Specific steps and tools may vary depending on your vehicle model. Always consult a professional service manual for detailed instructions.

5. Operation

Once installed, the engine and transmission mounts operate passively to support the powertrain and absorb vibrations. There are no user-adjustable settings or operational controls for these components. Proper installation ensures optimal performance.

The primary function during vehicle operation is to:

  • Securely hold the engine and transmission in place.
  • Isolate the vehicle cabin from engine noise and vibrations.
  • Manage engine torque and movement during acceleration and deceleration.

6. Maintenance

Engine and transmission mounts are wear-and-tear items that do not typically require routine maintenance. However, periodic inspection is recommended as part of your vehicle's overall maintenance schedule.

6.1 Inspection Points:

  • Visual Check: Look for cracks, tears, or excessive compression in the rubber components.
  • Fluid Leaks: Some hydraulic mounts may leak fluid when failing. Check for any oily residue around the mounts.
  • Excessive Movement: With the vehicle safely supported, gently attempt to move the engine/transmission by hand. Excessive play or clunking sounds may indicate a worn mount.
  • Bolt Tightness: Ensure all mounting bolts are secure and torqued to specification.

If any signs of wear or damage are observed, replacement of the affected mount(s) is recommended to maintain vehicle performance and comfort.

7. Troubleshooting

Worn or failing engine and transmission mounts can lead to several noticeable symptoms. If you experience any of the following, inspect your mounts:

SymptomPossible Cause (Worn Mounts)Recommended Action
Excessive Vibration: Noticeable vibrations felt through the steering wheel, floor, or seats, especially at idle or specific RPMs.Degraded rubber components no longer effectively absorb engine vibrations.Inspect mounts for cracks or separation. Replace as needed.
Clunking or Thumping Noises: Sounds heard during acceleration, deceleration, shifting gears, or going over bumps.Engine/transmission shifting excessively, causing metal-on-metal contact or impact with the chassis.Check for loose or broken mounts. Replace any damaged mounts.
Engine Movement: Visible engine movement when revving the engine in park/neutral (with brakes applied).Mounts are no longer securely holding the engine in place.Inspect all mounts for integrity and tightness.
Rough Shifting: Transmission shifts feel harsh or jerky.Excessive transmission movement due to a worn transmission mount.Inspect the transmission mount specifically.
