- To Power Off: Long press the Power / Measure button. The device will also automatically shut down after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
6.2. Changing Measurement Units
The DT50 supports multiple measurement units: meters (m), feet (ft), inches (in), and feet+inches (ft+in).
- Short press the Unit button to cycle through the available units. The selected unit will be displayed on the screen.

6.3. Setting Reference Point
The measurement can be taken from either the front or the rear of the device. This is crucial for accurate measurements, especially in tight spaces.
- Press the Reference Point button to switch between front and rear reference points. An icon on the display will indicate the current reference point.
6.4. Basic Distance Measurement
- Ensure the desired unit and reference point are selected.
- Point the laser at the target surface.
- Short press the Power / Measure button. The measurement will be displayed on the screen.

6.5. Measurement Modes
The DT50 offers several advanced measurement functions:

6.5.1. Continuous Measurement (Tracking)
This mode allows for dynamic measurement, displaying the distance in real-time as the device is moved.
- Press the Function button until the continuous measurement icon appears.
- Point the laser at the target. The distance will update continuously.
- Press the Power / Measure button again to stop tracking and hold the current measurement.
6.5.2. Area Measurement
To calculate the area of a rectangular space:
- Press the Function button until the area icon appears.
- Measure the first side (e.g., length) by pressing the Power / Measure button.
- Measure the second side (e.g., width) by pressing the Power / Measure button again.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the area.

6.5.3. Volume Measurement
To calculate the volume of a rectangular space:
- Press the Function button until the volume icon appears.
- Measure the length, width, and height sequentially by pressing the Power / Measure button after each measurement.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.
6.5.4. Pythagorean Theorem Measurement
This mode allows for indirect measurement of heights or distances using the Pythagorean theorem (a² + b² = c²).
- Press the Function button until the Pythagorean icon appears (e.g., for two-point or three-point measurement).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to take the required measurements (e.g., hypotenuse, base).
- The device will calculate and display the unknown side.

7. Data Management
7.1. Data Storage
The DT50 can store up to 30 sets of measurement data, allowing for easy recall and review.
- After taking a measurement, the result is automatically saved.
- Press the Data Storage button to view previous measurements. Use the arrow buttons to navigate through the stored data.

7.2. Mute Function
To silence the device's beeping sounds:

- If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
9. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DT50, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on. | Low or dead batteries; incorrect battery polarity. | Replace batteries with new ones; ensure correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate measurements. | Laser lens is dirty; unstable measurement surface; incorrect reference point. | Clean the laser lens; ensure a stable measurement surface; verify the correct reference point is selected. |
| "Out of Range" error (e.g., Error 261). | Measurement is too short or too long for the device's range. | Ensure the measurement is within the 0.2ft to 165ft (0.06m to 50m) range. For very short distances (e.g., less than 2 inches), a tape measure may be required. |
| Laser not visible outdoors. | Strong ambient light. | The visibility of the red laser may be reduced in bright sunlight. This is normal for Class 2 red lasers. Consider using the device in shaded areas or at dusk/dawn for outdoor measurements. |
