2. Safety Information

This device uses a Class 2 laser. Observe the following safety precautions:

  • Do not stare directly into the laser beam.
  • Do not point the laser beam at people or animals.
  • Avoid operating the device in explosive environments.
  • Keep the device out of reach of children.
  • Do not attempt to modify or disassemble the device.

4. Device Overview

4.1. Components

The HANMATEK DT50 features a robust design with an intuitive button layout and a clear display.

4.2. Buttons and Functions

  • Power / Measure Button: Short press to turn on the laser or take a measurement. Long press to turn off the device.
  • Unit Button: Short press to cycle through measurement units (m, ft, in, ft+in). Long press for mute function.
  • Function Button: Short press to select measurement modes (single, continuous, area, volume, Pythagorean).
  • Clear / Back Button: Short press to clear the last measurement or exit a mode.
  • Plus/Minus Button: Used for addition/subtraction of measurements.
  • Reference Point Button: Changes the measurement reference point (front or rear of the device).
  • Data Storage Button: Accesses stored measurement data.

5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover open.
  3. Insert the two 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The device requires 2 AAA batteries, which are included in the package.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Short press the Power / Measure button. The laser will activate.
  • To Power Off: Long press the Power / Measure button. The device will also automatically shut down after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

6.2. Changing Measurement Units

The DT50 supports multiple measurement units: meters (m), feet (ft), inches (in), and feet+inches (ft+in).

  • Short press the Unit button to cycle through the available units. The selected unit will be displayed on the screen.

6.3. Setting Reference Point

The measurement can be taken from either the front or the rear of the device. This is crucial for accurate measurements, especially in tight spaces.

  • Press the Reference Point button to switch between front and rear reference points. An icon on the display will indicate the current reference point.

6.4. Basic Distance Measurement

  1. Ensure the desired unit and reference point are selected.
  2. Point the laser at the target surface.
  3. Short press the Power / Measure button. The measurement will be displayed on the screen.

6.5. Measurement Modes

The DT50 offers several advanced measurement functions:

6.5.1. Continuous Measurement (Tracking)

This mode allows for dynamic measurement, displaying the distance in real-time as the device is moved.

  1. Press the Function button until the continuous measurement icon appears.
  2. Point the laser at the target. The distance will update continuously.
  3. Press the Power / Measure button again to stop tracking and hold the current measurement.

6.5.2. Area Measurement

To calculate the area of a rectangular space:

  1. Press the Function button until the area icon appears.
  2. Measure the first side (e.g., length) by pressing the Power / Measure button.
  3. Measure the second side (e.g., width) by pressing the Power / Measure button again.
  4. The device will automatically calculate and display the area.

6.5.3. Volume Measurement

To calculate the volume of a rectangular space:

  1. Press the Function button until the volume icon appears.
  2. Measure the length, width, and height sequentially by pressing the Power / Measure button after each measurement.
  3. The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.

6.5.4. Pythagorean Theorem Measurement

This mode allows for indirect measurement of heights or distances using the Pythagorean theorem (a² + b² = c²).

  1. Press the Function button until the Pythagorean icon appears (e.g., for two-point or three-point measurement).
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to take the required measurements (e.g., hypotenuse, base).
  3. The device will calculate and display the unknown side.

7. Data Management

7.1. Data Storage

The DT50 can store up to 30 sets of measurement data, allowing for easy recall and review.

  • After taking a measurement, the result is automatically saved.
  • Press the Data Storage button to view previous measurements. Use the arrow buttons to navigate through the stored data.

7.2. Mute Function

To silence the device's beeping sounds:

  • Long press the Unit button to toggle the mute function on or off. A mute icon will appear on the display when activated.

8. Maintenance

8.1. Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the laser lens clean and free from dust or debris to ensure accurate measurements.

8.2. Storage

  • Store the device in its carry bag when not in use to protect it from dust and impacts.
  • If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DT50, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
