3. Product Overview

3.1 GW1200 IoT Wi-Fi Gateway

The GW1200 gateway serves as the central hub for your weather monitoring system. It features a built-in 3-in-1 sensor for indoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. It connects to your Wi-Fi network to upload data from itself and other compatible ECOWITT sensors to the internet, making data accessible via the Ecowitt APP.

3.2 WN34BL Pool Thermometer

The WN34BL is a waterproof thermometer designed for measuring water temperatures in pools, spas, fishponds, freezers, and refrigerators. It features an LCD display for direct temperature readings and a 10-foot (3-meter) extension cable connected to a stainless steel probe for accurate measurements in various depths.

4. Setup

4.1 GW1200 Wi-Fi Configuration

  1. Power On: Connect the GW1200 gateway to a USB power source (USB 2.0 or later) using the provided USB cable. You can use the 1.5m/3ft extension cable for flexible placement.
  2. Download Ecowitt APP: It is recommended to download the Ecowitt APP from your mobile device's app store (iOS or Android).
  3. Wi-Fi Configuration: Follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide or the Ecowitt APP to configure the Wi-Fi connection. There are two methods: via the Ecowitt APP or through a web browser interface. The APP method is generally more straightforward.
  4. Sensor Pairing: Once the GW1200 is connected to Wi-Fi, it will automatically detect and pair with compatible ECOWITT sensors, including the WN34BL Pool Thermometer, if they are within range.

4.2 WN34BL Pool Thermometer Installation

  1. Placement: Position the WN34BL main unit in a location where its LCD display is easily visible and it can communicate with the GW1200 gateway.
  2. Probe Immersion: Immerse the stainless steel temperature probe into the water or medium you wish to measure. The 10-foot cable allows for deep immersion. Ensure the main unit remains dry.
  3. Secure: Use appropriate mounting hardware (not included) if you need to secure the main unit to a wall or surface near the measurement point.

5. Operation

Once set up, the WN34BL Pool Thermometer will display the current water temperature on its LCD screen. The GW1200 Gateway will collect this data, along with its own indoor environmental data, and upload it to the Ecowitt server via your Wi-Fi network.

  • Local Display: Read the water temperature directly from the WN34BL's LCD display.
  • Mobile App: Access real-time and historical data for both the GW1200 and WN34BL, as well as any other paired sensors, through the Ecowitt APP (WS View for iOS or Android). The app allows you to view temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  • IoT Control: If you have paired smart control devices with the GW1200, you can manage them through the Ecowitt APP.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the GW1200 Gateway and the WN34BL main unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Probe Care: Periodically inspect the WN34BL probe and cable for any signs of damage or wear. Clean any buildup on the probe to ensure accurate readings.
  • Battery (if applicable): The GW1200 is USB powered. The WN34BL may use internal batteries (check product specifications for details) which should be replaced as needed.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the Ecowitt APP periodically for any available firmware updates for the GW1200 Gateway to ensure optimal performance and new features.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure the GW1200 is powered on and within range of your Wi-Fi router. Re-run the Wi-Fi configuration process via the Ecowitt APP. Check your router settings for any restrictions.
  • No Sensor Data: Verify that the WN34BL is powered on (if it uses batteries) and within the RF communication range of the GW1200. Ensure there are no significant obstructions between the sensor and the gateway.
  • Inaccurate Temperature Readings: Ensure the WN34BL probe is fully immersed in the water and not exposed to direct sunlight or other heat sources that could affect its reading. Calibrate if necessary through the app, if the feature is available.
  • App Not Displaying Data: Check your internet connection. Ensure the Ecowitt APP is updated to the latest version. Log out and log back into your Ecowitt account.
