Setup and Installation

This section outlines the general steps for replacing the carburetor. Specific procedures may vary slightly depending on your trimmer model. Refer to your trimmer's original service manual for detailed disassembly and reassembly instructions.

  1. Prepare the Trimmer:
    • Ensure the trimmer is turned off and the engine is cool.
    • Disconnect the spark plug wire.
    • Drain any remaining fuel from the fuel tank into an approved container.
  2. Remove Air Filter and Housing:
    • Locate and remove the air filter cover and air filter.
    • Unscrew and remove the air filter housing to expose the carburetor.
  3. Disconnect Fuel Lines and Linkages:
    • Carefully disconnect the fuel lines from the old carburetor. Note their positions for reinstallation.
    • Disconnect the throttle linkage and choke linkage from the carburetor.
  4. Remove Old Carburetor:
    • Unbolt the old carburetor from the engine manifold.
    • Remove the old gasket.
  5. Install New Carburetor:
    • Place the new gasket (provided) onto the engine manifold.
    • Mount the new ACTIVLIFE carburetor, ensuring it aligns correctly with the manifold and bolt holes.
    • Secure the carburetor with the bolts, tightening them evenly.
  6. Reconnect Fuel Lines and Linkages:
    • Reconnect the fuel lines to the new carburetor in their original positions. Replace old fuel lines and fuel filter with the new ones provided if they are worn or cracked.
    • Reconnect the throttle and choke linkages. Ensure they move freely and operate correctly.
  7. Replace Primer Bulbs (if necessary):
    • If the old primer bulbs are cracked or hardened, carefully pry them out and press the new ones into place.
  8. Install New Spark Plug:
    • Remove the old spark plug.
    • Install the new L7T spark plug, tightening it to the manufacturer's specifications (typically hand-tight plus 1/4 turn with a wrench).
  9. Reassemble Air Filter Housing:
    • Reinstall the air filter housing and air filter.
    • Replace the air filter cover.

Operating Instructions (Post-Installation)

After successful installation, follow these steps to start and operate your trimmer:

  1. Refuel: Fill the fuel tank with the appropriate fuel mixture (gasoline and 2-stroke oil, according to your trimmer's specifications).
  2. Prime the Carburetor: Press the primer bulb repeatedly (typically 5-10 times) until fuel is visible in the bulb and flows freely.
  3. Choke Setting: Set the choke lever to the "Full Choke" or "Start" position.
  4. Starting Procedure:
    • Place the trimmer on a flat, stable surface.
    • Pull the starter rope firmly and smoothly until the engine attempts to start or "pops" (usually 1-3 pulls).
    • Once the engine "pops," move the choke lever to the "Half Choke" or "Run" position.
    • Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
    • Allow the engine to warm up for a few seconds before engaging the throttle.
  5. Carburetor Adjustment (if necessary):

The carburetor is typically pre-set. However, minor adjustments may be needed for optimal performance, especially at different altitudes or temperatures. Use the provided adjustment tool.

    • Idle Speed Screw: Adjusts the engine's idle RPM. Turn clockwise to increase idle, counter-clockwise to decrease.
    • High-Speed (H) Screw: Controls fuel mixture at high RPM. Adjust for maximum power without sputtering.
    • Low-Speed (L) Screw: Controls fuel mixture at low RPM and acceleration. Adjust for smooth idle and acceleration without bogging.

Caution: Improper carburetor adjustment can damage the engine. If unsure, consult a qualified service technician.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your carburetor and trimmer.

  • Fuel System:
    • Always use fresh, properly mixed fuel. Stale fuel can cause carburetor issues.
    • Inspect fuel lines for cracks or leaks periodically. Replace if damaged.
    • Replace the fuel filter annually or if it appears clogged.
  • Air Filter:
    • Clean or replace the air filter regularly, especially in dusty conditions. A clogged air filter restricts airflow and affects carburetor performance.
  • Spark Plug:
    • Inspect the spark plug annually. Clean or replace if fouled or worn. Ensure the correct gap.
  • Storage:
    • Before long-term storage, drain all fuel from the tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor of fuel. Alternatively, use a fuel stabilizer.
