4. Setup and Installation

Important: Before beginning installation, ensure the recliner is unplugged from the power source to prevent electrical shock. It is recommended to have two people for safe installation.

  1. Prepare the Recliner: Unplug the recliner from the wall outlet. Position the recliner to allow easy access to the existing linear actuator. This may involve tilting the chair or laying it on its side.
  2. Identify Connections: Locate the power transformer connection (usually a 2-pin flat round connector) and the hand control plug connection (a 5-pin connector) on your existing actuator.
  3. Disconnect Old Actuator: Carefully disconnect the power and hand control cables from the old actuator. Note their orientation for re-connection.
  4. Remove Old Actuator: The actuator is typically secured by pins or bolts at both ends. Remove these fasteners to detach the old actuator from the recliner frame. Keep these fasteners for the new installation.
  5. Install New Actuator: Position the new KDPT007-03 actuator in the same location as the old one. Secure it using the original pins or bolts. Ensure it is firmly attached and moves freely without obstruction.
  6. Connect Cables:
    • Connect the 2-pin flat round plug from the power transformer to the corresponding port on the new actuator.
    • Connect the 5-pin plug from the hand control to its designated port on the new actuator.
  7. Cable Management: Ensure all cables are routed safely and are not pinched or tangled in the recliner mechanism. Use cable ties if necessary.
  8. Test Functionality: Plug the recliner back into the power outlet. Carefully test the recliner's functions using the hand control to ensure the actuator operates smoothly and correctly.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the KDPT007-03 linear actuator operates in conjunction with your recliner's existing hand control unit. The operation is straightforward:

  • Power On: Ensure the recliner is plugged into a functional wall outlet.
  • Using the Hand Control:
    • Press and hold the designated button on your hand control to extend the actuator rod, which typically moves the recliner to an upright or extended position.
    • Press and hold the other designated button to retract the actuator rod, moving the recliner to a reclined or closed position.
  • Smooth Movement: The actuator is designed for smooth and controlled movement. Release the button on the hand control to stop the movement at any desired position.
  • Duty Cycle: Adhere to the maximum duty cycle of 2 minutes ON and 18 minutes OFF (10%). Continuous operation beyond this limit can lead to overheating and damage to the motor.

6. Maintenance

The KDPT007-03 linear actuator is designed for minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can ensure its longevity and optimal performance:

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the actuator and its connections for any signs of wear, damage, or loose cables.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the actuator free from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Integrity: Ensure all power and control cables are securely connected and not frayed, pinched, or damaged.
  • Lubrication: The internal components are pre-lubricated and generally do not require additional lubrication. If unusual noises occur, consult a professional.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the actuator in a dry environment. Avoid exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your KDPT007-03 linear actuator, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Actuator does not move.
  • No power to the recliner.
  • Loose or disconnected power cable.
  • Faulty hand control.
  • Actuator motor failure.
  • Check if the recliner is plugged in and the wall outlet is functional.
  • Verify all power connections (2-pin flat round) are secure.
  • Check the 5-pin hand control connection. If possible, test with a known good hand control.
  • If all connections are secure and power is present, the actuator may need replacement.
Actuator moves slowly or intermittently.
  • Overload on the recliner mechanism.
  • Low power supply.
  • Actuator nearing end of life.
  • Exceeded duty cycle.
  • Ensure no obstructions are hindering the recliner's movement.
  • Check the power transformer for proper voltage output.
  • Allow the actuator to cool down if it has been operated continuously. Adhere to the 10% duty cycle.
  • Consider replacement if issues persist.
Unusual noises during operation.
  • Mechanical obstruction.
  • Internal wear or damage.
  • Inspect the recliner mechanism for any foreign objects or misaligned parts.
  • If the noise persists and functionality is affected, professional inspection or replacement may be required.
