5. Setup

Proper setup is crucial for safe and effective operation. Follow these steps carefully before starting any painting project.

  1. Prepare the Work Area: Ensure the area is well-ventilated, clean, and free of obstructions. Cover surfaces not to be painted with drop cloths or plastic sheeting.
  2. Assemble the Sprayer:
    • Attach the high-pressure hose to the sprayer unit and the spray gun, ensuring all connections are tight.
    • Connect the suction tube with the filter head to the inlet port of the sprayer. Secure it with the suction tube clamp.
    • Attach the return hose to the appropriate port on the sprayer.
    • Install the desired nozzle (e.g., 517 nozzle) onto the spray gun. If using, attach the 0.5-meter extension rod between the gun and the nozzle guard.
  3. Prepare the Paint: Stir the paint thoroughly. For optimal results, ensure the paint consistency is suitable for airless spraying. Refer to the paint manufacturer's recommendations for thinning, if necessary. The VEVOR sprayer can handle unthinned paint directly from containers.
  4. Place Suction Tube: Submerge the suction tube's filter head completely into the paint container. Place the return hose into a waste bucket or back into the paint container for priming.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the sprayer into a grounded electrical outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your airless paint sprayer.

6.1 Priming the Sprayer

  1. Turn the pressure control knob to the lowest setting.
  2. Set the prime/spray valve to the "Prime" position.
  3. Turn on the power switch. The pump will start to draw paint.
  4. Allow the paint to circulate through the return hose until a steady stream of paint flows without air bubbles. This indicates the system is primed.
  5. Turn off the power switch.

6.2 Spraying

  1. After priming, turn the prime/spray valve to the "Spray" position.
  2. Turn the pressure control knob to the desired pressure setting. Start with a lower pressure and gradually increase until you achieve a consistent spray pattern.
  3. Hold the spray gun approximately 30 cm (12 inches) from the surface, keeping it perpendicular to the surface.
  4. Begin spraying by moving your arm, then pull the trigger. Release the trigger before stopping your arm movement. This technique prevents paint buildup at the start and end of each pass.
  5. Overlap each pass by about 50% to ensure even coverage.
  6. For best results, maintain a consistent speed and distance from the surface.

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your sprayer. Always unplug the unit and release pressure before cleaning.

7.1 Releasing Pressure

  1. Turn off the power switch.
  2. Engage the trigger lock on the spray gun.
  3. Point the spray gun into a waste bucket.
  4. Disengage the trigger lock and squeeze the trigger to release any remaining pressure.
  5. Turn the prime/spray valve to the "Prime" position to fully relieve pressure from the system.

7.2 Cleaning Procedure

  1. Remove the suction tube from the paint and place it into a bucket of appropriate cleaning solution (water for latex paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints).
  2. Place the return hose into the same cleaning solution bucket.
  3. Turn the prime/spray valve to "Prime" and turn on the power. Allow the cleaning solution to circulate until it runs clear through the return hose.
  4. Turn the prime/spray valve to "Spray". Remove the nozzle and nozzle guard from the spray gun.
  5. Point the spray gun into the waste bucket and pull the trigger, allowing the cleaning solution to flush through the high-pressure hose and gun until it runs clear.
  6. Turn off the power and release pressure as described in Section 7.1.
  7. Disassemble the spray gun, nozzle, filter, and suction tube. Clean all components thoroughly with the appropriate cleaning solution and brushes.
  8. Rinse all parts with clean water and allow them to dry completely before reassembly or storage.
