3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
- Slide the cover open.
- Insert the provided 18650 rechargeable battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - ends match the markings inside the compartment).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Initial Charging
Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the battery. Connect the supplied USB charging cable to the radio's USB port and a compatible USB power adapter (not included). The charging indicator on the display will show the charging status.
3.3 Antenna Extension
For optimal reception, especially for FM and SW bands, fully extend the telescopic antenna. For LW and MW bands, the internal ferrite rod antenna is primarily used, but extending the telescopic antenna can still improve reception in some cases.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
Press the POWER button to turn the radio on or off.
4.2 Band Selection
Press the FM, AM, or SW buttons to switch between frequency bands. The LW band is typically accessed within the AM band range or through specific settings.
4.3 Tuning Methods
The DX-286 offers several tuning methods:
- Manual Tuning: Rotate the multi-function knob on the side to manually adjust the frequency.
- Direct Frequency Input: Use the numeric keypad to enter the desired frequency directly, then press FM or AM to confirm.
- Automatic Scan (ATS): Press and hold the AUTO button to automatically scan and store available stations.
- Seek Tuning: Press the SEEK button to automatically scan for the next strong station.
4.4 Memory Storage and Recall
To store a station, tune to the desired frequency, then press and hold the SET button until the memory location flashes. Use the numeric keypad to select a memory slot, then press SET again to confirm. To recall a stored station, press the PAGE button to navigate through memory pages, or directly enter the memory slot number.
4.5 Time and Alarm Settings

4.6 Using External Antenna
Connect a compatible external antenna to the ANT. jack on the side of the radio. This can significantly improve reception, especially for distant or weak signals. Warning: Do not use the outdoor external antenna during thunderstorms to protect against lightning strikes!
