Resideo 5800SMOKEV Wireless Photoelectric Multi-Criteria Detector User Manual

Model: 5800SMOKEV

1. Product Overview

The Resideo 5800SMOKEV is a state-of-the-art wireless photoelectric multi-criteria detector designed for comprehensive fire safety. It is capable of detecting smoke, heat, rate of rise in temperature, and low temperature conditions. This advanced detector provides early detection of potential fire hazards while minimizing nuisance alarms, particularly from common synthetic materials found in modern home furnishings that tend to burn rapidly and intensely.

2. Safety Information

  • Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation.
  • This device is designed for indoor use only.
  • Do not paint the detector. Paint can interfere with the sensor's ability to detect smoke or heat.
  • Test the detector weekly and after any battery replacement.
  • Never ignore a smoke alarm. Investigate the cause and take appropriate action.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Choosing a Location

Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, including basements, and inside every sleeping area. For best protection, install a detector in every room (except bathrooms and kitchens). Avoid installing in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or near ventilation openings that could interfere with smoke detection.

3.2 Mounting the Detector

  1. Twist the mounting bracket counter-clockwise to separate it from the detector unit.
  2. Position the mounting bracket on the ceiling or wall at your chosen location.
  3. Mark the screw holes through the bracket.
  4. Drill pilot holes if necessary and secure the bracket using the provided screws.
  5. Insert the CR123A battery into the detector's battery compartment, observing polarity.
  6. Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks securely into place.

3.3 System Enrollment (Wireless)

Refer to your security system's control panel manual for specific instructions on enrolling wireless devices. Typically, this involves putting the control panel into programming mode and then activating the detector's enrollment feature (e.g., by pressing the test button or inserting the battery).

4. Operating the Detector

4.1 Normal Operation

In normal operation, the detector's LED indicator will flash briefly approximately every 45 seconds to indicate proper functioning.

4.2 Testing the Detector

Test the detector weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly. Press and hold the test button located on the center of the detector for at least 5 seconds. The alarm should sound, and the LED should flash rapidly. Release the button to silence the alarm.

4.3 Alarm Signals

  • Smoke/Heat Alarm: The detector will emit a loud, continuous three-beep pattern, pause, and repeat. The LED will flash rapidly.
  • Low Battery Signal: The detector will chirp approximately every 45 seconds, and the LED will flash. Replace the battery immediately.
  • Trouble Signal: A specific chirp pattern or LED indication may signify a fault. Refer to the troubleshooting section.

4.4 Silencing the Alarm

In the event of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking smoke), press the test/silence button to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The detector will automatically reset after this period if the smoke clears. If the smoke persists, the alarm will reactivate.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Detector

Dust and debris can accumulate on the detector and affect its performance. Clean the detector at least once a month by gently vacuuming the exterior with a soft brush attachment. Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays directly on the detector.

5.2 Battery Replacement

When the detector emits a low battery chirp, replace the battery immediately. The 5800SMOKEV uses one CR123A lithium battery.

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Remove the old battery and dispose of it properly.
  4. Insert a new CR123A battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  5. Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise until it locks.
  6. Test the detector after battery replacement.

6. Troubleshooting
