Installation

Follow these steps to install your Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector.

1. Turn Off Power

For hardwired alarms, always begin by turning off the main power to the circuit you will be working on at your home's circuit breaker. Verify power is off before proceeding.

2. Install the Mounting Bracket

All Kidde alarms come with a mounting bracket. Pull the wire harness through the center hole in the mounting bracket. Secure the mounting bracket to the electrical box using the provided screws. Ensure the mounting screws are positioned in the small ends of the keyholes before tightening, but do not overtighten.

3. Connect the Wires (Hardwired Alarms)

Connect the wires according to the user guide provided with your alarm. Then, connect the wire harness to the alarm, ensuring the connector snaps into place. Push any excess wire back into the electrical box through the hole in the center of the mounting bracket.

4. Activate Batteries

For models with AA batteries, ensure the battery door is closed and pull the tab to activate the backup battery before installation. You should hear a beep to confirm activation. If you do not hear a beep, remove and reinstall the batteries. Note that 10-year battery models do not have a pull tab; the internal battery self-activates with a confirmation beep when the alarm is securely attached to the mounting bracket.

5. Attach the Alarm

Twist and click the alarm into place on the mounting bracket by rotating clockwise until it is secure. For hardwired alarms, restore power at the circuit breaker after installation is complete.
