Key Features

  • PWM Function: The fan automatically adjusts speed based on motherboard temperature, eliminating manual adjustments. Provides 47.6 CFM airflow for effective cooling.
  • ARGB Lighting Effect: Double-sided ARGB thin light strip (0.6mm width) for seamless and delicate lighting. Supports 5V 3PIN ARGB. It is recommended to connect less than 6 fans in series for optimal lighting.
  • Optimized Cabling: Features a 55cm long cable. 4PIN PWM connector for power supply, and 5V 3PIN ARGB for lighting. Ensure correct connection to the motherboard.
  • Silent Operation: Designed for low noise levels, with a maximum noise output of 23.2 dBA.
  • Versatile Application: Suitable for use as a case fan or with a CPU cooler to enhance overall system cooling.

Package Contents

The package includes:

  • Thermalright TL-S12RW X3 120mm CPU Fan (quantity as per purchase)
  • Mounting Screws
  • PWM Signal Sync Wiring Cable
  • ARGB Lighting Wiring Cable

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your Thermalright TL-S12RW X3 fans. For a visual guide, please refer to the installation video below:

Video: A comprehensive guide demonstrating the physical installation of the fans, including mounting with screws, connecting PWM cables in series, and connecting ARGB lighting cables in series to the motherboard headers.

  1. Mounting the Fans:

Use the included screws to securely attach the fans to your PC case or CPU cooler. Ensure the fan orientation is correct for desired airflow (intake or exhaust). (Refer to video from 0:07 to 0:39)

  2. PWM Signal Sync Wiring:

Connect the 4-pin PWM connectors of the fans in series. Up to three fans can be connected to a single motherboard fan header. Connect the final PWM connector to the CHA_FAN header on your motherboard to power the fans and enable speed control. (Refer to video from 0:39 to 1:10)

  3. ARGB Lighting Wiring:

Remove the protective caps from the 3-pin ARGB connectors. Connect the ARGB lighting cables of the fans in series, ensuring the arrows on the headers align. Connect the final ARGB lighting cable to a +5V 3-pin ARGB header on your motherboard for lighting control. Note: These fans only support 5V 3PIN ARGB and DO NOT support 12V 4PIN RGB. (Refer to video from 1:10 to 2:00)

Operating Instructions

Once installed and connected, the Thermalright TL-S12RW X3 fans will operate as follows:

  • Automatic Speed Control (PWM): The fan speed will automatically adjust between 0-1500 RPM based on the CPU or system temperature, as detected by your motherboard. This ensures optimal cooling performance while minimizing noise.
  • ARGB Lighting Control: The ARGB lighting can be controlled via your motherboard's RGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync) or a compatible external ARGB controller. This allows for customization of colors, effects, and synchronization with other ARGB components.
  • Airflow Direction: These are reverse airflow fans. The S12R series fan blades rotate counter-clockwise, with the fan blade side exhausting air. This is ideal for specific case configurations to optimize airflow.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Thermalright TL-S12RW X3 fans, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan blades and frame to remove dust buildup. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the PC is powered off before cleaning.
  • Bearing Type: The fans are equipped with S-FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) for high durability and low noise. This bearing type is maintenance-free; do not attempt to disassemble the fan for lubrication.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly routed and secured to prevent interference with fan blades or other components, which can cause noise or damage.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Fans not spinning
  • Incorrect PWM connection.
  • Insufficient power from motherboard header.
  • Faulty fan.
  • Verify 4-pin PWM connector is securely plugged into the motherboard CHA_FAN header.
  • Ensure motherboard BIOS settings are configured to supply power to the fan header.
  • Test the fan on a different header or with a known working fan controller.
ARGB lighting not working
  • Incorrect ARGB connection (e.g., connected to 12V RGB header).
  • Loose ARGB connection.
  • Motherboard RGB software issue.
  • Ensure ARGB 3-pin connector is connected to a +5V 3-pin ARGB header. Do not connect to 12V 4-pin RGB.
  • Check all ARGB connections for secure fit and correct arrow alignment.
  • Update or reinstall your motherboard's RGB control software.
Excessive noise
  • Dust buildup on fan blades.
  • Loose mounting screws.
  • Cable interference.
  • Clean fan blades thoroughly.
  • Tighten all mounting screws.
  • Ensure no cables are touching the fan blades.
