4. Setup

4.1 Powering the Devices

The weather station and the wireless sensor require power to operate. Please follow these steps:

  1. Wireless Outdoor Sensor: Open the battery compartment on the back of the sensor. Insert 2 x LR6 AA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment.
  2. Weather Station (Main Unit): You have two power options:
    • Using the Power Adapter: Connect the included DC 5V 1.2A power adapter to the DC power supply socket on the back of the weather station, then plug it into a wall outlet.
    • Using Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the weather station. Insert 2 x LR6 AA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment. Note: Using batteries alone may limit backlight functionality.

Important: It is recommended to power the outdoor sensor first, then the main unit, to facilitate automatic pairing.

Figure 4.1: The weather station can be powered via DC adapter, USB (cable not included), or 2xAA batteries. The outdoor sensor uses 2xAA batteries.

4.2 Sensor Pairing

Once both devices are powered, the main unit will automatically attempt to connect with the outdoor sensor. The outdoor temperature and humidity readings should appear on the main unit's display. If the connection is not established within a few minutes, try the following:

  • Ensure the sensor is within the 60-meter transmission range of the main unit and away from major sources of interference (e.g., large metal objects, other wireless devices).
  • Press the 'TX' button inside the outdoor sensor's battery compartment to force a signal transmission.
  • On the main unit, press and hold the 'CHANNEL' button (or similar, refer to specific button layout) to initiate a manual search for the sensor.

4.3 Placement

Optimal placement is crucial for accurate readings and reliable wireless communication.

  • Main Unit: Place the weather station indoors on a flat surface using its integrated table stand, or mount it on a wall using the keyhole slot on the back. Choose a location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts that could affect indoor temperature readings.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Place the outdoor sensor in a shaded area, protected from direct rain and sunlight, to ensure accurate temperature and humidity readings. Avoid placing it near metal structures or large electrical appliances that could interfere with the wireless signal. The sensor can be wall-mounted or placed on a flat surface.

5.1 Time and Date Settings

The weather station supports DCF wireless time control for automatic synchronization. If DCF signal is not available or you prefer manual setting:

  • Press and hold the 'SET' button to enter time setting mode.
  • Use the '+' or '-' buttons to adjust values (e.g., hour, minute, year, month, day).
  • Press 'SET' again to confirm each setting and move to the next.
  • Select 12/24 hour format and day of the week language (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish).

5.2 Alarm and Snooze Function

The weather station has two daily alarms and a snooze function.

  • Press the 'ALARM' button to view alarm times.
  • Press and hold 'ALARM' to enter alarm setting mode. Adjust hour and minute using '+' or '-' buttons.
  • To activate/deactivate an alarm, press 'ALARM' repeatedly until the alarm icon appears/disappears.
  • When the alarm sounds, press any button (except 'SNOOZE/LIGHT') to stop it, or press 'SNOOZE/LIGHT' to activate snooze (5-60 minutes, configurable).

5.3 Temperature and Humidity Display

The main unit displays indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity.

  • Press the '°C/°F' button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit units.
  • The display shows current, minimum (MIN), and maximum (MAX) values for temperature and humidity. Press the 'MIN/MAX' button to cycle through these values.
  • The comfort index and mold risk indicators provide a quick overview of indoor conditions.

5.4 Weather Forecast

The weather station predicts the weather for the next 12 hours based on changes in barometric pressure. The forecast icons include:

Image showing weather forecast icons: Sunny, Slightly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy, Snowy.

Figure 5.3: Weather forecast icons displayed on the screen.

  • Sunny: Clear skies expected.
  • Slightly Cloudy: Partially cloudy conditions.
  • Cloudy: Overcast skies.
  • Rainy: Rain expected.
  • Snowy: Snow expected.

Note: The weather forecast is an estimation and may not always be 100% accurate. If the weather station is moved to a new location, it may take 12-24 hours for the barometric pressure trend to adjust and provide an accurate forecast.

5.5 Barometric Pressure Display

The weather station displays the current barometric pressure and a 24-hour historical trend graph.

  • Press the 'PRESSURE' button to switch between hPa/mb and inHg units.
  • The graph provides a visual representation of pressure changes over the last 24 hours, which is key to understanding weather trends.

5.6 Sunrise/Sunset and Moon Phases/Tides

These features provide additional environmental information.

  • To set your city for accurate sunrise/sunset times, refer to the detailed instructions in the full user manual (if provided separately) or navigate through the settings menu using the 'SET' button.
  • The moon phase and tide indicators update automatically based on the set time and location.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your weather station.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the main unit and sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries in both the main unit and the outdoor sensor when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Always replace all batteries at once with new ones of the same type.
  • Storage: If the weather station will not be used for an extended period, remove all batteries to prevent leakage and store the device in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HAOYAO Wireless Weather Station, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No display on main unit.No power; batteries inserted incorrectly or depleted; adapter not connected.Check battery polarity; replace batteries; ensure adapter is securely plugged in.
Outdoor readings not displayed or inaccurate.Sensor out of range; interference; sensor batteries depleted; sensor not paired.Move sensor closer to main unit; avoid interference sources; replace sensor batteries; re-initiate sensor pairing (see Section 4.2).
Weather forecast seems incorrect.Weather station recently moved; initial calibration period.Allow 12-24 hours for the unit to recalibrate its barometric pressure trend after relocation. Forecasts are estimations, not guarantees.
Display shows "LL.L" or "HH.H".Temperature or humidity readings are outside the measurable range. This indicates the environment is too cold/hot or too dry/humid for the sensor's specified range.
Alarm does not sound.Alarm is not activated or volume is too low.Ensure the alarm icon is displayed on the screen; check alarm settings.
