3. Setup and Installation
The NICGIGA 18 Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch is designed for easy plug-and-play setup. No software configuration is required for basic operation.
3.1 Connecting the Switch
- Connect to Power: Plug the provided power adapter into the switch's power input port and then into a standard AC power outlet (110-240V). The power LED on the switch will illuminate.
- Connect Devices:
- For PoE-compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, IP phones, wireless access points), connect them to ports 1-16 using standard Ethernet cables. The switch will automatically detect and supply power to these devices.
- For non-PoE devices (e.g., routers, NVRs, printers, laptops), connect them to any available port (1-18) using standard Ethernet cables for data connectivity.
- Use ports 17 and 18 as uplink ports to connect to your router, NVR, or other network backbone devices for high-speed data transfer.

3.2 Rack Mounting
The switch can be installed on a desktop or mounted in a standard 19-inch server rack using the included rack mount kit.
- Attach the two rack mount brackets to the sides of the switch using the provided screws.
- Secure the switch with the attached brackets into your 19-inch server rack using appropriate rack screws (not included).

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Functionality
The switch supports IEEE 802.3af/at standards, automatically detecting and providing power to compatible Powered Devices (PDs) connected to ports 1-16. Each PoE port can deliver up to 30W, with a total power budget of 250W for all PoE ports.
4.2 VLAN Mode
The NICGIGA GS1620P switch includes a One-Key VLAN mode. When activated, this mode isolates ports 1-16 from each other, preventing direct communication between devices connected to these ports. However, all ports (1-16) can still communicate with the uplink ports (17-18). This feature enhances network security and optimizes bandwidth utilization by segmenting traffic.

4.3 LED Indicators
The front panel LEDs provide status information for the switch and its ports:
- Power LED: Indicates the power status of the switch.
- Link/Act LEDs (per port): Indicates a network link and data activity on the respective port.
- PoE LEDs (per PoE port): Indicates PoE power delivery status.
5. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your NICGIGA PoE+ Switch, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Ventilation: Ensure proper airflow around the switch. Do not block ventilation openings.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Environment: Operate the switch within its specified temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.
- Cable Management: Keep network cables organized to prevent strain on ports and ensure efficient cooling.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your NICGIGA PoE+ Switch, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power to switch | Power adapter not connected or faulty; power outlet issue. | Ensure power adapter is securely connected to both the switch and a working power outlet. Check the power adapter for damage. |
| No link/data activity on a port | Faulty Ethernet cable; device not properly connected; device issue. | Verify Ethernet cable connections. Try a different cable. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly. |
| PoE device not receiving power | Device not PoE compatible; cable issue; total power budget exceeded. | Confirm the device is IEEE 802.3af/at compliant. Check the Ethernet cable. Ensure the total power consumption of all PoE devices does not exceed 250W. |
| Devices on ports 1-16 cannot communicate with each other | VLAN mode is enabled. | If direct communication between these ports is desired, disable VLAN mode using the switch on the front panel. |
