- Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the battery cover.
- Insert the 3 AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screws.
4.2 Connecting Test Leads and Thermocouples
For most measurements (voltage, resistance, continuity, etc.), connect the test leads:
- Insert the black test lead into the COM (common) input jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩmA input jack for voltage, resistance, capacitance, diode, and continuity measurements.
For temperature measurements, connect the thermocouple:
- Insert the thermocouple into the appropriate input jacks, observing polarity.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 General Operation
- Power On/Off: Rotate the dial from the OFF position to any measurement function to turn the meter ON. Rotate back to OFF to power down.
- Auto-Ranging: The meter automatically selects the appropriate measurement range for most functions.
- Backlight/Flashlight: Press the dedicated button (often labeled with a light bulb icon) to activate the display backlight or the integrated flashlight. This feature is particularly useful in dimly lit environments.

5.2 Measurement Modes
AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp)
To measure AC or DC current using the clamp jaw:
- Rotate the dial to the AC A or DC A position.
- Open the clamp jaw and enclose only one conductor (wire) through the center of the clamp.
- Read the current value on the display. For DC current, press the REL/ZERO button to zero the reading before measurement if needed.

Figure 5.2: AC/DC Current Measurement
This image shows the clamp meter measuring current by enclosing a single wire, demonstrating its non-contact current measurement capability.
AC/DC Voltage Measurement
To measure AC or DC voltage:
- Rotate the dial to the AC V or DC V position.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit points where voltage is to be measured.
- Read the voltage value on the display.

Figure 5.3: AC/DC Voltage Measurement
This image illustrates the clamp meter performing a voltage test using its test leads, showing the display with a voltage reading.
Resistance, Capacitance, Diode, Continuity
Rotate the dial to the Ω (Ohms) or Capacitance symbol. Use the FUNC button to cycle through Resistance, Diode, and Continuity modes. Connect test leads to the component being measured.
Temperature Measurement
Rotate the dial to the °C/°F position. Connect the thermocouple to the input jacks. Place the thermocouple tip on the object or area whose temperature is to be measured.
NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Detection
Rotate the dial to the NCV position. Move the top of the clamp meter near a live conductor. The meter will indicate the presence of AC voltage through audible beeps and visual indicators on the display.
Inrush Current Measurement
The Inrush function is used to measure the initial surge of current when an electrical device is turned on. This function is only available in AC current mode.
- Rotate the dial to the AC A position.
- Press the Inrush button.
- Open the clamp jaw and enclose the single conductor of the device to be tested.
- Turn on the device. The meter will capture and display the peak inrush current. The measuring time is approximately 100ms. This function works best when the current is greater than 10A.

Figure 5.4: Inrush Current Test in AC Mode
This image shows the clamp meter performing an inrush current test on an electrical circuit, with the display showing the measured inrush value.
VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) and LoZ (Low Input Impedance) Modes
These advanced modes provide higher accuracy for specific measurement scenarios:
- VFD: Used for accurate voltage and current measurements on variable frequency motor drives.
- LoZ: Low input impedance mode helps to avoid false readings caused by ghost voltages, providing more reliable measurements.
