5.2 Initial Seasoning of the Griddle Top

Before first use, it is recommended to season the griddle top to create a non-stick surface and protect against rust.

  1. Clean the griddle top with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Dry completely.
  2. Apply a thin, even layer of high-heat cooking oil (e.g., flaxseed, grapeseed, or vegetable oil) to the entire cooking surface.
  3. Turn the griddle to medium-high heat and allow the oil to smoke off completely. This may take 15-20 minutes.
  4. Repeat the oil application and smoking process 3-4 times. The griddle surface will darken, indicating a seasoned layer.

8. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your griddle.

8.1 Burner Not Lighting

  • Check Propane Supply: Ensure the 1-pound propane cylinder is not empty and is securely connected.
  • Ignition Spark: Listen for the 'click' of the Piezo igniter. If no spark, check the igniter electrode for damage or obstruction.
  • Gas Flow: Ensure the control knob is fully turned to the 'HIGH' position during ignition.
  • Clear Obstructions: Check burner ports for any debris that might be blocking gas flow.

8.2 Uneven Heating

  • Level Surface: Ensure the griddle is on a level surface. Use the adjustable griddle top feature to correct any tilt.
  • Wind Conditions: While the griddle has a wind-blocking design, extreme wind can still affect heat distribution. Position the griddle to minimize direct wind exposure.
  • Burner Performance: Check if the burner flame is consistent across its length. Clean any clogged burner ports if necessary.
