2.3 Cuff Selection and Attachment
Selecting the correct cuff size is crucial for accurate readings. An improperly sized cuff can lead to inaccurate results (falsely high or low).

Image: Visual explanation of how a cuff that is too small or too large can lead to inaccurate blood pressure readings.
How to Choose the Correct Cuff Size:
- Measure the circumference of your upper arm, midway between your shoulder and elbow.
- Refer to the table below to select the appropriate cuff:
| Arm Circumference | Cuff Size |
|---|---|
| 7"-9" (18-23 cm) | Small |
| 9"-17" (23-43 cm) | Medium/Large |
| 13"-21" (33-53 cm) | Extra Large (XL) |

Cuff Attachment:
- Ensure the air tube is securely connected to the monitor's air jack.
- Place the cuff on your bare upper arm, 2-3 cm (approximately 1 inch) above your elbow. The red area on the cuff should be centered over the inside of your elbow.
- Wrap the cuff snugly around your arm, ensuring it is not too tight or too loose. The D-ring and Hook and Loop Fastener facilitate easy application.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Before Taking a Measurement
For the most accurate blood pressure readings, observe the following guidelines:
- Rest for at least 5 minutes before taking a measurement.
- Avoid eating, drinking alcohol or caffeine, smoking, or exercising for 30 minutes prior.
- Sit in a comfortable position with your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Do not cross your legs.
- Place your arm on a flat surface so the cuff is at heart level.
- Remain still and silent during the measurement. Do not talk or move.
- Take measurements at the same time each day, preferably in the morning.
