Eco-Drive Technology: How It Works

Your Citizen Eco-Drive watch is powered by light, eliminating the need for battery replacement. Light, both natural and artificial, passes through the watch crystal and dial to a solar cell. This solar cell converts light into electrical energy, which is then stored in a rechargeable power cell. This stored energy drives the watch movement, ensuring continuous and accurate timekeeping.

Setup and Initial Operation

1. Charging the Watch

Upon receiving your watch, expose it to bright light (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours to ensure it is fully charged. The watch may arrive in a low-charge state. A full charge allows the watch to operate for an extended period, even in darkness.

2. Setting the Time and Date

Your Promaster Eco-Drive Eco Sky watch features atomic timekeeping technology, which synchronizes with atomic clocks for superior accuracy. The watch can automatically adjust time in 26 time zones. Refer to the detailed instructions on the official Citizen website for specific steps on how to manually set the time, date, and select your desired time zone, or to initiate a manual synchronization with the atomic clock signal.

3. Using the Perpetual Calendar

The perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for odd and even months and leap years, ensuring the correct date is always displayed without manual adjustment until the year 2100.

Operating the Watch Functions

Time Display

The watch features a clear analog display for hours, minutes, and seconds. The dial also includes a slide rule bezel, which can be operated using the crown on the left side of the watch case. This slide rule is designed for various calculations, such as multiplication, division, and unit conversions, often used in aviation.

Atomic Time Synchronization Check

To check the last successful atomic time synchronization, consult the watch's specific operating guide. Typically, a button press or crown manipulation will indicate the status (e.g., 'OK' for successful sync, 'NO' for no sync).

Care and Maintenance

Water Resistance

This watch is rated for 200 meters (20 ATM) water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and recreational diving. Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and, if applicable, screwed down before any water exposure to maintain water resistance.

Crystal Care

The watch features a durable sapphire crystal, known for its high scratch resistance. While highly resistant, it is not entirely scratch-proof. Avoid unnecessary impacts or abrasive materials.

Leather Strap Care

The brown leather strap is made from genuine leather. To prolong its life, avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures. Clean with a soft, damp cloth and allow to air dry. Periodically conditioning the leather can help maintain its suppleness and appearance.

Power Cell Maintenance

As an Eco-Drive watch, it requires regular exposure to light to maintain its charge. If stored in darkness for extended periods, the power reserve may deplete. To prevent this, ensure the watch is exposed to light periodically. If the watch stops, expose it to bright light for several hours to recharge.
