  • Spray bottle with water and a few drops of mild soap (slip solution)
  • Squeegee or soft card
  • Heat gun or hairdryer (optional, for complex curves)
  • Clean microfiber towels
  • Rubbing alcohol or automotive surface cleaner

5. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps for proper installation of your Lamin-x tail light covers:

  1. Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the tail light surface using rubbing alcohol or an automotive surface cleaner. Ensure the surface is free of dirt, dust, wax, and debris. Rinse with water and dry with a clean microfiber towel.
  2. Prepare Slip Solution: Fill a spray bottle with water and add 2-3 drops of mild dish soap. Shake gently to mix. This creates a 'slip solution' that allows you to position the film.
  3. Wet the Light and Film: Generously spray the entire tail light surface with the slip solution. Peel the backing liner from the Lamin-x film, exposing the adhesive side, and spray the adhesive side thoroughly with the slip solution as well.
  4. Position the Film: Carefully place the wet film onto the wet tail light. The slip solution will allow you to slide and reposition the film until it perfectly aligns with the light's edges.
  5. Squeegee Out Solution: Once positioned, use a squeegee or soft card to gently push the water and air bubbles out from under the film. Start from the center and work your way outwards, applying even pressure. For curved areas, a heat gun or hairdryer can be used sparingly to make the film more pliable, allowing it to conform better.
  6. Final Adhesion: Ensure all edges are firmly adhered. Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe away any excess solution and gently press down on the edges.
  7. Curing Time: Allow the film to cure for at least 24-48 hours before washing the vehicle or exposing it to harsh weather conditions. This allows the adhesive to fully bond.

6. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your Lamin-x tail light covers, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Wash the film with mild automotive soap and water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, brushes, or harsh chemicals that could scratch or damage the film.
  • Avoid High Pressure: When using a high-pressure washer, maintain a safe distance and avoid directing the spray directly at the edges of the film, as this can cause lifting.
  • Waxing: You can wax the film just as you would your vehicle's paint to maintain its shine and protect it from environmental elements.
  • Inspect Regularly: Periodically inspect the film for any signs of damage or lifting. Address minor issues promptly to prevent further damage.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

  • Small Bubbles: Minor water bubbles may appear immediately after installation. Most will dissipate naturally within a few days to a week as the film cures. For persistent bubbles, you can gently re-squeegee them towards the nearest edge or carefully puncture them with a fine pin and smooth the area.
  • Lifting Edges: If an edge begins to lift, clean the area, re-wet it with slip solution, and gently re-adhere it using a squeegee. A heat gun or hairdryer can help reactivate the adhesive and make the film more pliable for re-application.
  • Hazy Appearance: A slight haze immediately after installation is normal and is usually due to residual moisture under the film. This should clear as the film dries and cures over several days. Ensure adequate curing time in a warm environment.
