Setup and Installation

Installation of coilovers requires specialized tools and automotive knowledge. It is highly recommended that installation be performed by a qualified professional.

General Installation Steps (Consult a professional for detailed vehicle-specific instructions):

  1. Safely lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  2. Remove the wheels.
  3. Disconnect and remove the original suspension components (struts, springs, etc.).
  4. Install the new maXpeedingrods coilovers, ensuring all mounting points are correctly aligned and secured.
  5. Adjust the ride height to your desired setting (refer to "Operating" section for details).
  6. Reinstall wheels and lower the vehicle.
  7. Perform a wheel alignment after installation to ensure proper vehicle handling and tire wear.

Operating and Adjustment

Damping Adjustment

Your maXpeedingrods coilovers feature 24 levels of damping adjustment, allowing you to fine-tune your ride for various conditions.

  1. Locate the damper adjustment knob on the top of each coilover (under the hood for front, in the trunk for rear, or accessible from wheel well).
  2. Remove the protective cap if present.
  3. Use the provided adjustment tool or your hand to turn the knob. Turning clockwise generally increases damping (harder ride), and counter-clockwise decreases damping (softer ride).
  4. Refer to the "Key Features" section for suggested damping levels based on driving conditions (street, mountain, race track).

Height Adjustment

The ride height can be adjusted independently of spring preload.

  1. Safely lift the vehicle and support it.
  2. Loosen the lower locking collar on the coilover body.
  3. Turn the main body of the coilover to raise or lower the vehicle.
  4. Once the desired height is achieved, tighten the lower locking collar securely.
  5. Always ensure both sides of the vehicle are adjusted to the same height for balanced handling.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your coilovers.

  • Regular Cleaning: Keep the coilover bodies, springs, and adjustment threads clean from dirt, salt, and debris. Use mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Inspect for Damage: Periodically inspect for any signs of leaks, corrosion, bent components, or damaged dust boots. Address any issues promptly.
  • Check Torque: After initial installation and periodically thereafter, check the torque of all mounting bolts and locking collars to ensure they remain secure.
  • Lubrication: Apply a thin layer of appropriate grease to the threads of the coilover body to prevent seizing and allow for easier height adjustments.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions
SymptomPossible CauseSolution
Excessive Noise (Clunking/Squeaking)Loose mounting bolts, worn bushings, improper spring preload, debris in spring seat.Check and tighten all bolts. Inspect and replace worn bushings. Adjust spring preload. Clean spring seats.
Uneven Ride HeightIncorrect height adjustment, uneven spring preload.Re-measure and adjust height on both sides. Ensure spring preload is consistent.
Harsh RideDamping set too stiff, excessive spring preload, incorrect tire pressure.Adjust damping to a softer setting. Reduce spring preload if necessary. Check and adjust tire pressure.
Poor Handling/StabilityIncorrect damping settings, improper alignment, loose components.Adjust damping. Get a professional wheel alignment. Check all connections.
