Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your KVM switch:
- Physical Installation: The BENFEI KVM switch features an adjustable screw clamp for mounting. Find a suitable location on your monitor stand, desk edge, or monitor itself. The clamp can accommodate thicknesses from 0.19 to 1.41 inches (5-36mm). Tighten the screw to secure the switch firmly. The soft silicone pads prevent scratches and ensure stability.
- Connect HDMI Inputs: Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI output of your first computer (PC1) to the 'HDMI IN PC1' port on the KVM switch. Repeat this for your second computer (PC2) to the 'HDMI IN PC2' port.
- Connect USB Data Inputs: Connect one of the included USB 3.0 A-A cables from a USB 3.0 port on your first computer (PC1) to the 'USB IN PC1' port on the KVM switch. Repeat this for your second computer (PC2) to the 'USB IN PC2' port. These connections are crucial for keyboard, mouse, and other USB peripheral functionality.
- Connect HDMI Output: Connect an HDMI cable from the 'HDMI OUT' port on the KVM switch to the HDMI input of your monitor or display.
- Connect USB Peripherals: Plug your keyboard, mouse, USB flash drives, printer, or other USB 3.0/2.0 devices into the four 'USB 3.0' ports on the front of the KVM switch.
- Connect Power: Connect the USB-A to C charging cable to the 'DC-5V' USB-C port on the KVM switch and to a 5V power source (e.g., a USB wall adapter, not included). This ensures stable operation, especially when using high-current USB devices.

Operating Instructions
Once the KVM switch is set up, operating it is straightforward:
- Switching Between Computers: To switch between PC1 and PC2, simply press the button on the front of the KVM switch. The LED indicators (PC1, PC2) will illuminate to show which computer is currently active.
- Using Shared USB 3.0 Ports: All four USB 3.0 ports on the front of the KVM switch are shared between the two connected computers. When you switch to PC1, all connected USB devices will function with PC1. When you switch to PC2, they will function with PC2. These ports support data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BENFEI KVM switch, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the KVM switch. Avoid using liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive solvents, as they may damage the device.
- Ventilation: Ensure the KVM switch is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block any ventilation openings.
- Cable Management: Keep cables organized and untangled to prevent strain on ports and accidental disconnections.
- Environmental Conditions: Store and operate the device in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your KVM switch, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Display or Flickering Screen:
- Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected to both the KVM switch and your computers/monitor.
- Verify that the KVM switch is powered on and the correct input (PC1/PC2) is selected.
- Check your monitor's input source settings to ensure it's set to the correct HDMI input.
- Try using different HDMI cables, especially if you are using long cables or cables not rated for 8K@60Hz.
- Reduce the display resolution or refresh rate on your computer to see if the issue persists.
- Keyboard/Mouse Not Responding or Intermittent Connection:
- Ensure the USB data cables (USB-A to USB-A) from both computers are securely connected to the 'USB IN PC1' and 'USB IN PC2' ports on the KVM switch. These are essential for peripheral functionality.
- Confirm that the KVM switch is receiving adequate power via the DC-5V USB-C port. Insufficient power can affect USB device recognition.
- Disable USB power saving settings in your computer's operating system (e.g., in Windows Device Manager, for USB Root Hubs, uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power').
- Try connecting the keyboard/mouse to different USB 3.0 ports on the KVM switch.
- If using wireless peripherals, ensure their dongles are securely plugged into the KVM's USB ports.
- Slow Switching Time:
- A brief delay (a few seconds) during switching is normal as the operating system re-establishes connection with the display and peripherals.
- Ensure the KVM switch is powered on before powering on your connected computers.
- Device Not Recognized (e.g., printer, hard drive):
- Ensure the device is properly connected to one of the KVM's USB 3.0 ports.
- Verify that the KVM switch has sufficient power. Some high-power USB devices may require the KVM to be externally powered.
- Try connecting the device directly to the computer to confirm it functions independently of the KVM switch.
