4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Control Box Overview

The control box is the central interface for your metal detector. It features a large, intuitive back-lit LCD screen and several control buttons:

  • POWER: Long press for 3 seconds to turn the device On/Off.
  • SENS (Sensitivity): Adjusts the detection sensitivity. Higher sensitivity allows for deeper detection but may increase false signals.
  • VOL (Volume): Controls the audio output volume. Also controls backlight.
  • MODE: Cycles through the 5 detection modes.
  • PP (Pinpoint): Locates the exact position of a detected target.
  • +/- Buttons: Used to adjust sensitivity, volume, and discrimination levels within modes.

4.2 Detection Modes

Your OMMO Metal Detector features 5 distinct detection modes to optimize your search:

  • All METAL Mode (A-M): Detects all types of metal, including steel, zinc, aluminum, gold, copper, and silver. This mode offers the broadest detection range.
  • DISC Mode (Discrimination): Allows you to reject unwanted trash items. You can eliminate specific metal types from left to right on the screen, and the detector will not respond to them.
  • Memory Mode: Remembers the mode you set last time, allowing for quick recall of your preferred settings. This mode can also be used to detect only memorized metal types.
  • JEWELRY Mode: Specifically designed to detect jewelry and other precious metals. This mode helps filter out common junk metals.
  • PP Mode (Pinpoint): Used to precisely locate the target by pressing and holding the PP button. The detector will emit a continuous beep that intensifies as you get closer to the target.

4.3 Detection Depth and Waterproof Coil

The OMMO Metal Detector offers high sensitivity, capable of detecting small coins and metal objects up to 8 inches deep, and larger objects up to 12 inches. The 10-inch search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing for effective underwater detection in shallow areas like beaches and riverbanks. NOTE: The control box is NOT waterproof and must be kept dry.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your metal detector:

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in sandy or wet conditions, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Use the provided carry bag for protection.
  • Battery Care: Always use fresh 9V batteries. Replace them when the battery indicator on the LCD screen shows low power.
  • Cable Management: Ensure the search coil cable is not pinched or damaged. Properly winding it around the stem helps prevent wear and tear.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your OMMO Metal Detector, try these common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Check if the batteries are correctly inserted and fully charged. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • No Detection/Weak Signal: Increase the sensitivity setting. Ensure the search coil cable is securely connected to the control box. Check for strong electromagnetic interference from power lines or other electronic devices.
  • False Signals: Lower the sensitivity. Ensure you are not sweeping the coil too quickly. Avoid areas with high mineral content or excessive metallic trash if using All Metal mode.
  • Inaccurate Pinpointing: Ensure you are using the PP mode correctly, sweeping slowly over the target area.
  • No Audio: Check headphone connection. If using the built-in speaker, ensure the volume is turned up.
