3. Safety Instructions
Always prioritize safety when operating electrical equipment, especially with water. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, serious injury, or death.
General Safety:
- Read and understand all instructions before use.
- Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged.
- Ensure the pump is placed on a stable, level surface.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the operating area.
- Never run the pump dry; this can cause severe damage.
- Do not use the pump for flammable or corrosive liquids.
Electrical Safety:
- Connect the pump only to a properly grounded outlet.
- Do not modify the plug or use adapters.
- Avoid using extension cords unless absolutely necessary, and ensure they are rated for outdoor use and the pump's power requirements.
- Never touch the pump or water while the pump is connected to power. Always disconnect power before handling.
- The pump features overload protection, which will automatically disconnect power in case of failure.
4. Setup
Proper setup is crucial for the pump's performance and longevity.
4.1. Base Configuration (3-in-1 Function)
The pump offers three base configurations for different water types:
- Low Suction (1mm): For minimal residual water.
- Clean Water (particles < 5mm): Use the base with smaller intake holes.
- Dirty Water (particles < 30mm): Use the base with larger intake holes.
To change the base, ensure the pump is disconnected from power. Unscrew the current base and attach the appropriate one for your application. Refer to Image 4.1 for visual guidance.

Image 4.1: The pump's adaptable base allows for three modes: low suction (minimum 1mm), clean water (particles less than 5mm), and dirty water (particles less than 30mm).
4.2. Hose Connection
The pump includes multiple adapters for various hose types. Select the appropriate adapter for your discharge hose and securely attach it to the pump's outlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- For high-capacity discharge hoses: Use 1" or 1-1/2" adapters.
- For threaded hose connections: Use 3/4" GHT or 1-1/2" NPT adapters.

Image 4.2: Various hose adapters are provided for flexible connection to different hose sizes and types, including flat PVC garden hoses and screw thread garden hoses.

Image 4.3: Example of connecting a standard garden hose using the 3/4" NPT adapter. Hose is not included.
4.3. Placement
Place the pump in the lowest point of the area to be drained. Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water before operation. The float switch must have sufficient space to move freely to ensure automatic operation.
5. Operating Instructions
The MEDAS pump can operate in both manual and automatic modes.
5.1. Automatic Operation (Float Switch)
The integrated float switch allows the pump to start and stop automatically based on water levels. Ensure the float switch is positioned so it can move freely without obstruction.
- When the water level rises, lifting the float switch, the pump will automatically start.
- When the water level drops, lowering the float switch, the pump will automatically stop.
- The pump will start when the water level reaches approximately 23 inches and stop when it drops to about 1/25 inch (1mm).

Image 5.1: Diagram illustrating the automatic operation of the pump via the float switch, showing start and stop levels.

Image 5.2: The float switch mechanism ensures reliable, hands-free operation by sensing water levels.
5.2. Manual Operation
For continuous operation or to override the float switch, you can manually operate the pump. To do this, secure the float switch in an upward position (e.g., by attaching it to the handle). The pump will then run continuously as long as it is powered and submerged.
Caution: When operating in manual mode, monitor the pump closely to prevent it from running dry, which can cause damage.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the pump's lifespan.
6.1. Cleaning
- Always disconnect the pump from power before cleaning.
- Rinse the pump with clean water after each use, especially if used for dirty water.
- Inspect the intake screen and impeller for debris. Remove any blockages carefully.
- If the pump has been used in muddy or sandy conditions, disassemble the base to thoroughly clean the internal components.
6.2. Inspection
- Periodically check the power cord and plug for any signs of damage (cuts, fraying).
- Ensure all hose connections are secure and free of leaks.
- Verify that the float switch moves freely.
6.3. Storage
- Before storing, clean the pump thoroughly and allow it to dry completely.
- Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location.
- Do not store the pump with water inside if there is a risk of freezing.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pump, refer to the following table for common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power; Float switch stuck; Overload protection activated; Impeller jammed. | Check power supply; Ensure float switch moves freely; Disconnect power, wait 15 mins, reconnect; Disconnect power, clear impeller. |
| Low flow rate or no water discharge | Hose kinked or blocked; Intake screen blocked; Pump running dry; Air lock. | Check and clear hose; Clean intake screen; Ensure pump is fully submerged; Tilt pump to release air. |
| Pump runs continuously | Float switch stuck in 'on' position; Water level not dropping below stop level. | Ensure float switch moves freely; Check for continuous water inflow. |
| Pump makes unusual noise | Debris in impeller; Pump running dry; Worn bearings. | Disconnect power, clear debris; Ensure pump is submerged; Contact customer service for worn bearings. |
