3. Installation Instructions

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all packaging materials, including foam and adhesive tape. Inspect the refrigerator for any shipping damage. Keep packaging materials until you are satisfied with the product.

3.2 Location Requirements

  • Place the refrigerator on a strong, level floor capable of supporting its weight when fully loaded.
  • Allow at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space at the back and sides for proper air circulation.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources (e.g., stove, radiator) as this will increase energy consumption.
  • Ensure the ambient temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 109°F (43°C) for optimal performance.

3.3 Leveling the Appliance

The refrigerator must be level for proper operation. Adjust the leveling feet located at the bottom front of the appliance. Turn clockwise to raise and counter-clockwise to lower. Use a spirit level to ensure the appliance is perfectly balanced.

3.4 Power Connection

Plug the refrigerator into a dedicated, grounded 110V AC outlet. Do not use a multi-outlet adapter or extension cord. Ensure the power cord is not pinched or damaged.

3.5 Initial Operation

After plugging in, allow the refrigerator to run for at least 2-4 hours before placing food inside. This allows the interior to reach the correct temperature and stabilizes the cooling system.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Temperature Control

The refrigerator and freezer compartments have separate temperature controls. Adjust settings based on the amount of food stored and desired cooling levels.

Smad Refrigerator Temperature Controls
Figure 4.1: The refrigerator temperature control ranges from 33.8°F to 50°F. The freezer temperature control knob ranges from -7.6°F to 6.8°F, with settings from 'Cold' to 'Colder'.
  • Refrigerator: Use the electronic control panel to select one of the 5 temperature settings. Lower numbers indicate warmer temperatures, higher numbers indicate colder temperatures.
  • Freezer: Use the rotary knob inside the freezer compartment to adjust the temperature. Turn towards 'Colder' for lower temperatures.
  • Allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize after making adjustments.

4.2 Food Storage Guidelines

  • Refrigerator Compartment: Ideal for fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, beverages, and cooked foods. Store items in sealed containers to prevent odor transfer and drying out.
  • Freezer Compartment: Suitable for long-term storage of frozen meats, seafood, ice cream, and other frozen goods. Ensure packages are tightly sealed to prevent freezer burn.
  • Do not place hot food directly into the refrigerator or freezer; allow it to cool to room temperature first.

4.3 Adjusting Shelves and Door Bins

The glass shelves and door bins are adjustable to accommodate items of various sizes. To adjust a shelf, lift it slightly and pull it out. Reinsert at the desired height. Ensure shelves are securely seated before placing items on them.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Interior

  • Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning.
  • Wash the interior surfaces with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Remove shelves and drawers for separate cleaning.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals.

5.2 Cleaning the Exterior

Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent. For stainless steel surfaces, use a stainless steel cleaner and polish in the direction of the grain. Keep the door gaskets clean to ensure a tight seal.

5.3 Frost-Free System

Smad Refrigerator Frost Free System
Figure 5.1: The refrigerator features a frost-free system that uses air cooling cycle technology to prevent ice buildup, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.

This refrigerator is equipped with a frost-free system, meaning manual defrosting is not required. The system automatically prevents ice buildup in the freezer compartment. Ensure the air vents inside are not blocked by food items.

5.4 Power Outage Guidelines

In case of a power outage, keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain internal temperatures. Food should remain safely frozen for approximately 24 hours if the doors are kept shut.

5.5 Vacation Care

  • Short Vacations (less than 3 weeks): Leave the refrigerator operating.
  • Long Vacations (more than 3 weeks): Empty the refrigerator and freezer, unplug the appliance, clean it thoroughly, and leave the doors ajar to prevent odors and mold growth.

6. Troubleshooting

Before contacting customer service, review the following common issues and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Refrigerator does not operate. Not plugged in; circuit breaker tripped; power outage. Check power cord connection; reset circuit breaker; check household power supply.
Temperature is not cold enough. Temperature setting too warm; door opened too frequently; warm food placed inside; poor ventilation. Adjust temperature setting to a colder level; minimize door openings; allow hot food to cool before storing; ensure adequate clearance around the unit.
Unusual noises. Appliance not level; objects vibrating against the unit; normal operating sounds. Level the appliance using the adjustable feet; ensure nothing is touching the back or sides; gurgling or humming sounds are normal.
Water on floor or inside. Drain tube blocked; door not sealing properly. Clear any blockages from the drain tube; check door gaskets for proper seal and clean if necessary.
