4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

1. Insert the EN-EL15c battery into the MH-25a battery charger.
2. Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator lamp will blink while charging and turn off when charging is complete.
3. A full charge typically takes approximately 2.5 hours.

4.2 Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

1. Open the battery chamber cover on the bottom of the camera.
2. Insert the charged EN-EL15c battery with the orange lock facing up, pushing it in until it clicks into place.
3. Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera.
4. Insert the 64GB SF-M Tough Series Memory Card into the appropriate slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is oriented correctly.
5. Close both covers securely.

4.3 Attaching a Lens

1. Remove the body cap from the camera and the rear cap from the lens.
2. Align the mounting mark on the lens with the mounting mark on the camera body.
3. Rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it clicks into place.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1 Powering On/Off

Rotate the power switch around the shutter-release button to turn the camera on or off.

5.2 Basic Shooting Modes

The Z8 offers various shooting modes accessible via the mode dial:

• P (Programmed Auto): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed for optimal exposure.
• S (Shutter-Priority Auto): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture. Ideal for controlling motion blur.
• A (Aperture-Priority Auto): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed. Ideal for controlling depth of field.
• M (Manual): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
• U1, U2, U3 (User Settings): Save frequently used settings for quick recall.

5.3 Autofocus System

The Z8 features an advanced 493-point Phase-Detection AF system. Use the AF-mode button and sub-command dial to select your desired AF mode (e.g., Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, Auto-area AF) and AF-area mode (e.g., Pinpoint, Wide-area, Subject-tracking).

5.4 Video Recording

To record video, rotate the photo/video selector to the video icon. Press the dedicated video-record button to start and stop recording. The Z8 supports 8K60 and 4K120 recording with advanced codecs. Monitor your footage using the Real-Live Viewfinder or the tilting touchscreen LCD.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Camera

• Camera Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away dust and smudges. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with distilled water.
• Lens and Sensor: Use a blower brush to remove dust. For smudges, use a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. For sensor cleaning, it is recommended to use a professional service or a specialized sensor cleaning kit with extreme care.
