5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your Rhorawill solar panel:

  1. Prepare the Camera: Before connecting the solar panel, ensure you remove the AA batteries from your Blink Outdoor camera. The solar panel has an internal battery and is designed to power the camera directly.
  2. Choose a Location: Select an outdoor location that receives direct sunlight for several hours each day. Avoid shaded areas.
  3. Mount the Bracket: Drill holes in the wall at your chosen location and securely fasten the 360° rotatable wall mount using the provided screws and screw bag.
  4. Attach the Solar Panel: Connect the solar panel to the mounted bracket.
  5. Adjust the Angle: Orient the solar panel to face direct sunlight. The adjustable bracket allows for 360° rotation and 90° vertical adjustment to achieve the best angle for maximum sun exposure.
  6. Connect to Camera:
    • For Blink Outdoor 2K+/4 (4th Gen) cameras, plug the 13.1ft (4m) Type-C rubber plug charging cable directly into the Type-C port on the back of the camera.
    • For Blink Outdoor (3rd Gen) XT3, Blink XT, and Blink XT2 cameras, use the included Type-C to Micro USB adapter cable. Ensure the rubber ring connector is properly seated to maintain waterproofing.
  7. Secure the Cable: Use the provided cable clips to neatly route and secure the charging cable along the wall, preventing it from dangling or becoming a hazard.

6. Operating Instructions

Once installed and connected, the solar panel will automatically begin charging your compatible Blink camera when exposed to sunlight. No manual operation is required.

  • Ensure the solar panel remains unobstructed by shadows from trees, buildings, or other objects to maximize charging efficiency.
  • The built-in smart IC protects against overcharge, overheat, overvoltage, and short circuits, ensuring safe and continuous power delivery.
  • Even on cloudy days, the high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon wafers will continue to convert available light into electricity, though at a reduced rate.

7. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your solar panel, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the surface of the solar panel to remove dust, dirt, leaves, or other debris that may accumulate and reduce charging efficiency. Use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cable and connections for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Ensure the rubber plug remains securely seated to maintain waterproofing.
  • Obstruction Check: Verify that no new obstructions (e.g., growing tree branches, new structures) are casting shadows on the solar panel. Adjust the panel's angle if necessary to maintain optimal sun exposure.
  • Environmental Conditions: The IP65 rating protects against typical outdoor weather. However, during extreme weather events (e.g., severe hailstorms, hurricanes), consider temporarily relocating the panel if possible, or ensure it is securely fastened.

8. Troubleshooting

If your Blink camera is not receiving power from the solar panel, consider the following:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Camera not chargingInsufficient sunlightRelocate the solar panel to an area with more direct sunlight. Adjust the panel's angle.
Camera not chargingDirty solar panel surfaceClean the solar panel surface with a soft, damp cloth.
Camera not chargingLoose or incorrect connectionEnsure the charging cable is securely plugged into both the solar panel and the camera. Verify the correct adapter (Type-C or Micro USB) is used for your camera model.
Camera not chargingCamera batteries still installedRemove the AA batteries from the Blink camera. The solar panel is designed to power the camera directly.
Water ingress at connection pointRubber plug not properly seatedEnsure the rubber plug on the charging cable (and adapter, if used) is fully and correctly inserted into the camera's charging port to create a waterproof seal.
