2. Setup
2.1 Power Supply
- Battery Power: The Liven Ambient Ø can be powered by 6 AA batteries. Open the battery compartment on the underside of the unit and insert the batteries, observing correct polarity.
- DC9V Adapter: For extended use or studio environments, connect a DC9V power adapter (not included) to the DC9V input jack. Ensure the adapter is compatible with the specified voltage and polarity.
2.2 Connections
- Line Out: Connect to an amplifier, mixer, or audio interface using a 3.5mm stereo cable.
- Line In: Connect external audio sources for sampling or processing through effects.
- Headphones: Connect stereo headphones for private monitoring.
- MIDI In/Out: Use 5-pin DIN MIDI cables to connect to other MIDI devices for synchronization or control.
- Sync In/Out: Use 3.5mm mono cables to synchronize with other analog sync devices.

3. Operating Instructions
The Liven Ambient Ø features a unique 4-layer architecture and Blendwave Modulation Synthesis to create rich, evolving soundscapes. Each layer (Drone, Pad, Atmos, Noise) can be independently controlled and sequenced.
3.1 4-Layer Ambient Generator & Blendwave Modulation Synthesis
The core of the Ambient Ø is its 4-layer generator, allowing you to blend different sonic elements:
- Drone Layer: Generates sustained, evolving tones.
- Pad Layer: Creates lush, atmospheric textures.
- Atmos Layer: Adds ethereal and spatial elements.
- Noise Layer: Incorporates various noise types, including sampling.
Each layer utilizes Blendwave Modulation Synthesis, offering 6 structures x 32 waves for diverse sound creation. Parameters like Wave, Harmonic, Pitch, Detune, and Mod can be adjusted to sculpt the sound.

3.2 Noise Layer with Sampling
The Noise layer is versatile, featuring 8 nature sounds with noise blending, pitch control, and modulation. It also supports up to 8 seconds of stereo sampling from the LINE IN input, allowing for custom textures. The LINE IN can also be routed to the Noise layer for filter and LFO processing.
3.3 Microtonal Sound
Explore diverse musical scales with 7 tunings per pattern. Options include Pure Intonation (Major/Minor), Pythagorean (Sharp/Flat), Solfeggio Frequencies, and Equal Temperament. The master tuning is adjustable from 410–470Hz.
3.4 Deep Effects for Space & Motion
The Ambient Ø includes a comprehensive effects section:
- Reverbs: 9 lush reverbs with per-layer reverb and shimmer sends.
- Master Effect Unit: Includes Tape Delay, Reverse Delay, Overdrive, Bit/Rate Crush, Tilt EQ, and Stereo Chorus. These effects can also process the Line In signal.
3.5 Per-Layer Sequencer
Each of the 4 layers has its own powerful sequencer:
- 64 steps × 128 patterns.
- 64 sound pattern palettes.
- Real-time or step input.
- Parameter Lock for automating parameter changes over time.
- Note probability (25–100%) and random playback for evolving patterns.
3.6 Portable Operation
Designed for portability, the Liven Ambient Ø is battery-powered and includes a built-in speaker, allowing you to create and enjoy ambient soundscapes beyond the studio environment.

4. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the synthesizer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Care: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
5. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure batteries are correctly inserted or the DC9V adapter is properly connected and functional.
- No Sound: Check volume levels, headphone connections, and line out connections. Verify that layers are not muted.
- MIDI/Sync Issues: Confirm correct cable connections and MIDI/Sync settings on both the Ambient Ø and external devices.
- Unexpected Behavior: Try performing a factory reset (refer to the full user manual for specific instructions).
