5. Setup and Assembly
5.1. Installing the Guide Bar and Chain
- Ensure the battery pack is removed from the chain saw.
- Place the chain saw on a stable, flat surface.
- Remove the chain cover by loosening the tensioning knob.
- Carefully place the saw chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face the correct direction (refer to chain direction indicator on the bar).
- Position the guide bar onto the mounting studs, ensuring the chain drive links fit into the guide bar groove.
- Replace the chain cover and hand-tighten the tensioning knob. Do not fully tighten yet.
5.2. Adjusting Chain Tension
Proper chain tension is crucial for safe and efficient operation. An improperly tensioned chain can derail or cause excessive wear.

Figure 5.1: Demonstrates the one-touch chain tensioning mechanism, making adjustments easy and tool-free.
- With the chain cover still slightly loose, use the tool-free chain tensioning knob to adjust the chain.
- The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be pulled away from the guide bar by about 2-3mm at the center, but still snaps back into place.
- Once tension is correct, fully tighten the tensioning knob to secure the guide bar and chain cover.
- Check chain tension periodically during operation, especially when the chain is new or after extended use.
5.3. Filling Chain Lubricant
The INGCO Cordless Chain Saw features an automatic lubrication system. Ensure the oil tank is filled with appropriate chain lubricant before each use.
- Ensure the battery pack is removed.
- Unscrew the oil tank cap.
- Fill the tank with high-quality chain and bar oil. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
- Replace the oil tank cap securely.
- Check the oil level frequently during operation.
5.4. Battery Installation
This chain saw operates on a 20V battery system. Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
- Align the charged battery pack with the battery slot on the chain saw.
- Slide the battery pack into the slot until it clicks securely into place.
- To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.
6. Operating Instructions
Always observe all safety precautions before and during operation.
6.1. Starting the Chain Saw
- Ensure the chain brake is disengaged (pulled back towards the front handle).
- Hold the chain saw firmly with both hands, one on the front handle and one on the rear handle.
- Press the safety lock-off button (if present) and then squeeze the trigger switch to start the motor.
- Allow the chain to reach full speed before beginning a cut.
6.2. Cutting Techniques
Always maintain a stable stance and good balance. Plan your cuts to avoid kickback and ensure the safe fall of material.

Figure 6.1: The chain saw being used to cut a log, demonstrating proper two-hand grip and cutting posture.
- Felling: For felling small trees, ensure the area is clear and plan the fall direction. Make a notch cut on the side of the intended fall, then a felling cut from the opposite side.
- Limbing: Remove branches from a felled tree. Work from the base towards the top, cutting smaller branches first. Be aware of branches under tension.
- Bucking: Cutting a felled log into smaller sections. Support the log to prevent pinching the chain. If cutting from above, cut about 1/3 of the way through, then finish from below.
- Avoid Kickback: Never cut with the tip of the guide bar. Always use the bottom or top edge of the bar.
6.3. Stopping the Chain Saw
- Release the trigger switch. The chain will stop quickly due to the quick chain brake function.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
- Always remove the battery pack when not in use, when transporting, or before performing any maintenance.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chain saw. Always remove the battery pack before any maintenance procedures.
7.1. Cleaning
- After each use, clean sawdust, chips, and debris from the chain saw, especially around the guide bar, chain, and motor housing.
- Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use water or solvents that could damage plastic parts or electrical components.
- Check the air vents for blockages and clear them.
7.2. Chain Sharpening
A sharp chain is essential for efficient and safe cutting. A dull chain will cause the saw to work harder, produce fine sawdust instead of chips, and increase the risk of kickback.
- Refer to the chain manufacturer's specifications for the correct file size and sharpening angles.
- Sharpen each cutter uniformly. If you are unsure, have the chain sharpened by a qualified service technician.
- Replace the chain if it is severely damaged, worn, or cannot be sharpened effectively.
7.3. Guide Bar Maintenance
- Clean the guide bar groove regularly to remove sawdust and debris.
- Flip the guide bar periodically to ensure even wear on both sides.
- Check for burrs on the guide bar rails and file them smooth if necessary.
7.4. Storage
- Store the chain saw in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children and unauthorized users.
- Ensure the chain brake is engaged and the battery pack is removed before storage.
- Use a guide bar cover to protect the chain and prevent accidental contact.
8. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your chain saw. If the problem persists, contact customer support.
