1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your AINAVI 12.3 inch Car Multimedia Player. This device is designed to upgrade your original BMW NBT system (2013-2016) with advanced features like Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, while retaining essential original vehicle functionalities.

Compatibility: Exclusively designed for BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, M3, M4 (F30/F31/F32/F33/F34/F36/F80/F82/F83/F84) models from 2012-2016 with the NBT system (6-Pin LVDS connector). Not compatible with CIC (4-Pin LVDS) or CCC (10-Pin LVDS) systems.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety. Ensure the vehicle is turned off and the parking brake is engaged before beginning installation. Disconnect the car battery to prevent electrical shorts. If you are unsure about any step, consult a professional technician. Do not operate the device in a way that distracts you from driving.

4. Setup & Installation

Ensure the car system is completely off before starting the installation. Use appropriate prying tools to avoid damaging interior trim.

4.1. Removing Original Components

  1. Using a prying tool, carefully remove the air conditioning outlet panel from the right side, then the entire trim panel.
  2. Disconnect all plugs from the face plate by pressing and holding the clips.
  3. Remove the decorative cover below the radio.
  4. Using a T20 screwdriver, remove the screws fixing the air conditioner control panel.
  5. Unplug the connectors of the air conditioner and ambient lights from the conditioner panel.
  6. Remove the screws fixing the original host (CD player unit).
  7. Pull the original host outward and disconnect the power plug and optical fiber cable.
  8. Remove the original display screen and unplug its LVDS connector.

4.2. Wiring Connections

  1. Route the power harness of the new screen to the instrument cluster area.
  2. Connect the yellow plug of the reversing camera (if applicable) with the yellow video input. Connect the reversing camera power supply cable to the camera power cable. Wrap the joint with electrical tape.
  3. Route the USB cable from the side of the storage box to the central console.
  4. Plug the screen's power connector into the original car power plug.
  5. Plug the original optical fiber cable into the standard adapter that comes with the power harness.
  6. Plug the power connector into the original host (CD player unit).
  7. Connect the plugs of the Linux ISO harness and USB harness to the back of the Linux device.
  8. Connect the stock LVDS male connector to the back connector of the Linux device.

4.3. Installing New Screen and Reassembly

  1. Plug all connectors (power cord, USB, LVDS) into the new screen.
  2. Make sure all connectors are plugged in correctly and tightly.
  3. Install the original host back to its original position, confirm it is installed in place, and then lock and fix the original host.
  4. Restore the connection plug on the back of the air conditioning trim panel, and then install it back to its original position.
  5. Install the decorative cover.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. System Switching

The device operates with dual systems, allowing you to retain the functions of the original car CD system and access the new Linux system features. To switch between the original vehicle system and the new system, hold the Menu button on your iDrive controller for 3 seconds.
