Model: PM6530B
Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the PEAKMETER PM6530B Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper functionality and to prevent potential hazards.
The PEAKMETER PM6530B is a professional industrial-grade infrared thermometer designed for non-contact temperature measurement. It features a built-in laser pointer for accurate targeting, adjustable emissivity, and the capability to measure temperature using a K-type thermocouple for contact measurements.
Safety Information
Warning: Read all safety information before use.
- Laser Safety: Do not look directly into the laser beam or point it at people or animals. The laser is used for targeting only and does not measure temperature.
- High Temperature Hazards: Exercise caution when measuring high-temperature surfaces. The thermometer measures surface temperature, but the surrounding area may still be hot.
- Electrical Safety: Do not expose the device to water or extreme humidity. Do not attempt to open or modify the device.
- Battery Safety: Ensure correct battery polarity. Remove batteries if the device is not used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

Setup
1. Unpacking and Contents
Carefully remove the thermometer and accessories from the packaging. Verify that all items are present:
- PEAKMETER PM6530B Infrared Thermometer
- Carrying Case
- K-Type Thermocouple Probe
- User Manual (this document)
- 9V Battery (may be included or sold separately)

Image Description: The PEAKMETER PM6530B infrared thermometer, its black carrying case, a K-type thermocouple probe, and the product box are displayed on a white background. This illustrates the typical contents of the product package.
2. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the handle of the thermometer.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert one 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: If the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the battery promptly.
Operating Instructions
1. Non-Contact IR Temperature Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target surface.
- Press and hold the measurement trigger. The laser pointer will activate to indicate the measurement area.
- The measured temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display (Data Hold function).
Important: The distance-to-spot ratio (D:S) for the PM6530B is 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 inches, the measurement spot diameter is 1 inch. Ensure the target area is larger than the spot size for accurate readings.

Image Description: An orange PEAKMETER PM6530C (similar to PM6530B) infrared thermometer is shown in use, pointing a red laser beam at a surface. The image highlights its non-contact capability and fast 0.5-second response time for temperature measurement.
2. Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F)
Press the MODE button to cycle through different display modes. When the temperature unit is flashing, use the UP or DOWN buttons to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
3. Adjusting Emissivity
Emissivity (ε) is a measure of a material's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivities. For accurate non-contact measurements, adjust the emissivity setting to match the target surface. The PM6530B has an adjustable emissivity range of 0.10 to 1.00.
- Press the MODE button until the emissivity value (ε) is displayed.
- Use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the emissivity value.
- Refer to common emissivity tables for typical values of various materials.
Common Emissivity Values:
- Most organic materials, painted surfaces, water: 0.95
- Shiny metals (unoxidized): 0.10 - 0.30
- Concrete, brick, plaster: 0.85 - 0.95
4. Using the K-Type Thermocouple
For contact temperature measurements, connect the K-type thermocouple probe to the designated input port on the side of the thermometer. The device will automatically switch to K-type measurement mode or you may need to select it via the MODE button. Place the tip of the thermocouple in direct contact with the surface or substance to be measured.
5. Backlight and Laser Control
Press the laser/backlight button (often combined with the laser pointer icon) to toggle the backlight on/off or to activate/deactivate the laser pointer.

Maintenance
1. Cleaning
- Lens: The infrared lens is the most delicate part. Clean it with a soft, damp cloth or cotton swab. Do not use abrasive materials or solvents.
- Housing: Clean the device housing with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not immerse the device in water.
2. Storage
Store the thermometer in its carrying case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Check battery polarity; replace with a new 9V battery. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Incorrect emissivity setting; lens is dirty; target too small or too far. | Adjust emissivity; clean the lens; ensure target is within D:S ratio. |
| "Low Battery" indicator. | Battery power is low. | Replace the 9V battery. |
| Laser not working. | Laser function disabled; device malfunction. | Press the laser button to activate; if still not working, contact support. |
