5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Grinding Coffee Beans

Image 5.1: Close-up of the integrated conical burr grinder, showing the 30 adjustable grind settings and fresh ground coffee in the portafilter.

  1. Fill the bean hopper with fresh, whole coffee beans.
  2. Select the desired filter basket (single or double shot) and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Adjust the grind setting using the dial on the bean hopper. A finer grind is typically used for espresso (settings 1-10), while coarser grinds are for other brewing methods. Experiment to find your preferred setting.
  4. Place the portafilter into the grinding cradle.
  5. Press the 'Grind' button. The grinder will dispense coffee into the portafilter. Press again to stop.
  6. Remove the portafilter and tamp the ground coffee firmly and evenly using a tamper (not included, but recommended for optimal extraction).

5.2 Brewing Espresso

  1. Ensure the machine is powered on and has reached operating temperature (indicator light will be solid). The rapid heating technology allows it to reach temperature in approximately 35 seconds.
  2. Insert the prepared portafilter (with tamped coffee) into the brew head. Twist it firmly to the right until it locks into place.
  3. Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.
  4. Press the 'Single' button for a single shot or the 'Double' button for a double shot. The machine will automatically pre-infuse and then extract the espresso.
  5. Once brewing is complete, the machine will stop automatically. Carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left.
  6. Discard the used coffee grounds (puck) and rinse the portafilter and filter basket.

5.3 Frothing Milk

  1. Fill the milk frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Ensure the machine is powered on and heated. Turn the central dial to the steam icon. The steam indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Once the steam light is solid, position the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk in the pitcher.
  4. Slowly open the steam dial to release steam. Lower the pitcher slightly to introduce air for frothing, then submerge the wand deeper to heat the milk.
  5. Continue until the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture (velvety microfoam).
  6. Close the steam dial completely. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.
  7. Purge the steam wand briefly by opening and closing the steam dial to clear any remaining milk.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your espresso machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the coffee grounds, rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Briefly purge steam to clear any internal milk residue.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the 'Full' indicator appears.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

6.2 Grinder Cleaning

Periodically clean the integrated grinder to prevent build-up of coffee oils and ensure consistent grind quality.

  1. Ensure the machine is unplugged.
  2. Remove any remaining coffee beans from the hopper.
  3. Remove the bean hopper and the upper burr.
  4. Use a brush to clean any coffee grounds from the burrs and the grinding chamber.
  5. Reassemble the burr and bean hopper.

6.3 Descaling

Descaling is essential to remove mineral deposits that can affect machine performance and taste. The frequency depends on your water hardness and usage, typically every 2-3 months.

  1. Empty the water tank and fill it with a descaling solution mixed according to the manufacturer's instructions (or a 1:1 ratio of white vinegar and water).
  2. Place a large container under the brew head and steam wand.
  3. Power on the machine.
  4. Run several cycles through the brew head (as if making espresso) until half of the solution is used.
  5. Open the steam dial to release steam through the wand until the remaining solution is used.
  6. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  7. Repeat steps 3-5 with fresh water to rinse out any descaling solution.
