2. Important Safety Instructions
- Always ensure the voltage indicated on the rating label matches your mains supply voltage.

4. Setup and First Use
4.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the iron from its packaging. Remove any protective films or stickers from the soleplate and body. Retain the packaging for storage or future transport.
4.2 Filling the Water Tank

- Remove the 1.5L water tank from the base unit.

4.3 Power Connection

4.4 Initial Heating
Press the power button on the base unit. Allow the iron to heat up. The indicator light will signal when the iron has reached the desired temperature. For first use, it is recommended to iron an old piece of fabric to remove any manufacturing residues.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Selecting Ironing Mode
The DBS 580 offers versatile ironing options:
- Dry Ironing: For delicate fabrics or when steam is not required. Ensure the steam function is off.
- Steam Ironing: For most fabrics. The iron features automatic steam regulation (100-125 g/min) which adjusts to the fabric type.
- Vertical Steam Ironing: Ideal for refreshing hanging garments, curtains, or delicate items. Hold the iron vertically a few inches from the fabric and press the steam button.

5.2 Using the ECO Switch
Press the ECO button on the base unit to activate energy-saving mode. This reduces power consumption while still providing effective ironing performance for suitable fabrics.

5.3 Transport Lock
For safe transport and storage, engage the practical transport lock. This secures the iron unit to its base.

6. Maintenance and Care
6.1 Cleaning the Soleplate
To clean the ceramic soleplate, ensure the iron is cool and unplugged. Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner if necessary. Do not use harsh scouring pads or metallic cleaners.
6.2 Anti-Calc Function
The integrated anti-calc system helps to reduce limescale buildup. For optimal performance, regularly perform the self-cleaning cycle.
6.3 Self-Cleaning Function
To activate the self-cleaning function:
- Fill the water tank to the MAX level.
- Plug in the iron and set it to the highest temperature setting.
- Once the iron reaches temperature, unplug it.
- Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
- Press and hold the 'Self-clean' button (refer to Figure 5.3). Hot water and steam will be expelled from the soleplate, flushing out impurities.
- Shake the iron gently back and forth until the water tank is empty.
- Plug the iron back in and let it heat up to dry the soleplate.
6.4 Storage
After use, allow the iron to cool completely. Empty any remaining water from the tank. Engage the transport lock and store the iron in a dry, safe place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
