DIG PB550 Ocean Breeze Evaporative Mist Animal Cooling Kit

Model: PB550 | Brand: DIG

Product Overview

The DIG PB550 Ocean Breeze Small Evaporative Mist Animal Cooling Kit is designed to reduce air temperature by up to 20°F, providing a cooler environment for animals and outdoor spaces. This kit includes 50 feet of 1/4" poly pipe and 7 0.8-GPH foggers, making it suitable for various applications such as pet enclosures, dog runs, kennels, cages, patios, decks, gazebos, pool areas, and camping sites.

The evaporative mist system works by releasing fine water droplets that absorb heat as they evaporate, effectively cooling the surrounding air. This method is an efficient way to combat high temperatures and improve comfort in designated areas.

Components

The DIG PB550 kit includes the following components:

  • 50 feet of 1/4" Poly Pipe
  • 7 x 0.8-GPH Foggers (Misting Nozzles)
  • Water Filter
  • Hose End Adapter
  • Various Connectors and Fittings (e.g., T-connectors, elbows, end caps)
  • Mounting Clips

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your misting kit:

  1. Plan the Layout: Determine the area to be cooled. Measure the length of tubing required and mark the locations where foggers will be placed. Ensure foggers are spaced evenly for optimal coverage, typically 2-3 feet apart.
  2. Connect to Water Source: Attach the hose end adapter to a standard garden hose faucet. Ensure the water filter is installed between the faucet and the main poly pipe to prevent clogging of the foggers.
  3. Lay Out Tubing: Unroll the 1/4" poly pipe along the planned path. It is recommended to let the tubing sit in the sun for a short period to make it more flexible and easier to work with.
  4. Install Foggers: At each marked fogger location, cut the poly pipe cleanly. Insert a T-connector or elbow fitting, then attach the fogger nozzle to the fitting. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
  5. Secure Tubing: Use the provided mounting clips to secure the poly pipe to structures such as fences, pergolas, or eaves. Space clips approximately every 2-3 feet to keep the tubing neat and stable.
  6. Test the System: Slowly turn on the water supply. Check all connections for leaks and observe the misting pattern from each fogger. Adjust fogger positions or tighten connections as needed.
  7. Drain and Winterize (Seasonal): In colder climates, it is crucial to drain the system before freezing temperatures to prevent damage to the tubing and foggers. Disconnect from the water source and open any end caps to allow water to drain completely.

Operating Instructions

Operating the DIG PB550 misting kit is straightforward:

  • Water Supply: Ensure the water source (garden hose) is connected and the faucet is turned on.
  • Pressure: The system operates effectively with standard household water pressure. No additional pump is typically required for this kit.
  • Activation: Once connected and water is on, the foggers will begin to produce mist.
  • Deactivation: To stop the misting, simply turn off the water supply at the faucet.
  • Optimal Use: For best cooling results, use the system during the hottest parts of the day when humidity is lower.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your misting system:

  • Nozzle Cleaning: Over time, mineral deposits from water can clog the fogger nozzles, reducing mist output or causing drips. Periodically remove the nozzles and soak them in a solution of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio) for several hours or overnight. Rinse thoroughly before reattaching. Use a soft brush if necessary to remove stubborn deposits.
  • Filter Inspection: Check the inline water filter regularly for debris. Clean or replace the filter cartridge as needed to maintain water flow and prevent clogging of the nozzles.
  • Tubing Inspection: Inspect the poly pipe for any kinks, cracks, or damage. Repair or replace damaged sections to prevent leaks.
  • Winterization: Before the first frost, completely drain all water from the system. Disconnect the kit from the water source, remove any end caps, and allow gravity to drain the tubing. Store foggers and tubing in a dry, protected area if possible, or ensure they are thoroughly dry and protected from freezing temperatures if left outdoors.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No mist or very little mist from foggers.Clogged nozzles, low water pressure, kinked tubing, clogged filter.Clean nozzles (soak in vinegar), check water supply and pressure, straighten tubing, clean or replace water filter.
Water spraying or dripping instead of misting.Partially clogged nozzles, damaged nozzle, insufficient water pressure.Clean nozzles thoroughly. If damaged, replace the specific nozzle. Ensure adequate water pressure.
Leaks at connections.Loose fittings, damaged O-rings/washers, improper installation.Tighten all connections. Inspect and replace any worn or damaged O-rings or washers. Ensure tubing is cut cleanly and inserted fully into fittings.
System not cooling effectively.High humidity, improper fogger placement, insufficient number of foggers for area size.Misting is less effective in high humidity. Ensure foggers are positioned to maximize coverage. Consider adding more foggers or extending the system for larger areas.
