3. Setup

3.1 Power Source

The OSALO FQ-450 calculator features a dual power system: solar and battery. It automatically switches between power sources depending on the light conditions.

  • Solar Power: The calculator will operate using solar power when sufficient light is available. Ensure the solar panel (6) is exposed to light.
  • Battery Power: An L1154F battery is pre-installed. The calculator will use battery power in low-light conditions or when solar power is insufficient. The battery typically lasts for approximately 2 years with one hour of continuous use per day.

3.2 Initial Use

No specific setup is required for initial use. Simply ensure the calculator is in a well-lit area or has a functional battery. The calculator will power on automatically when a button is pressed.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Calculations

To perform basic arithmetic operations:

  1. Enter the first number.
  2. Press the desired operation key (+, -, ×, or ÷). The operation symbol will appear on the display.
  3. Enter the second number.
  4. Press the = key to display the result.

4.2 Clearing Entries and All Clear

  • Press C/CE to clear the last entered number or operation. This allows correction without restarting the entire calculation.
  • Press AC to clear all entries, operations, and memory contents, resetting the calculator to its initial state.

4.3 Memory Functions

The calculator includes memory functions for storing and recalling values:

  • M+: Adds the displayed value to the memory.
  • M-: Subtracts the displayed value from the memory.
  • MR: Recalls the value currently stored in memory to the display.
  • MC: Clears the memory content. (Often combined with MR, pressing MR twice or a dedicated MC button).

4.4 Special Functions

  • GT (Grand Total): After a series of calculations, pressing GT will display the sum of all results.
  • % (Percentage): For percentage calculations. Example: To calculate 10% of 200, enter 200 × 10 %, the result will be 20.
  • √ (Square Root): Enter a number, then press √ to find its square root.
  • MU (Mark-Up): Used for calculating selling prices based on cost and desired profit margin.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

To maintain the calculator's appearance and functionality:

  • Wipe the calculator with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and mild soap, then wipe dry immediately.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the surface and internal components.

5.2 Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or unresponsive in low light, it may be time to replace the L1154F battery.

  1. Turn the calculator over.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover.
  3. Carefully remove the cover (a small screwdriver may be needed).
  4. Remove the old battery and insert a new L1154F battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

5.3 Storage

Store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the calculator.

6. Troubleshooting
