KOABBIT Combination Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector User Manual

Model: KH888

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the KOABBIT Combination Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector. This device is designed to provide continuous monitoring for both combustible gases (such as propane, natural gas, and methane) and carbon monoxide (CO) in your home or other suitable environments. Its advanced sensor technology and clear digital display ensure timely alerts, enhancing your safety and peace of mind. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper operation and maintenance.

Important Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before installing and operating this detector. Failure to follow these instructions may result in product malfunction, property damage, personal injury, or death. This device is not a substitute for proper ventilation and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.

  • Do not paint the detector.
  • Do not block the air inlet.
  • Do not install in areas with high humidity or extreme temperatures.
  • Test the detector regularly as per instructions.
  • In case of an alarm, immediately ventilate the area and contact emergency services if necessary.

Product Features

  • Upgraded Combination Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector: Plug-and-play design with LCD digital display for easy installation and monitoring.
  • 2-in-1 High Sensitivity Sensor: Utilizes catalytic combustion sensor for combustible gases and electrochemical sensor for carbon monoxide, ensuring high sensitivity and accuracy.
  • LCD Digital Display & 85dB Alarm: Displays gas concentration levels and emits an 85dB alarm sound when dangerous concentrations are detected, allowing for quick judgment and action.
  • Combustible Gas Detection Range: Detects liquefied petroleum gas (methane), natural gas, coal gas, gaseous fuel, artificial gas, and liquefied natural gas.
  • Power Saving Design: The display automatically turns off when no dangerous gas is detected to conserve energy.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for use in homes, kitchens, apartments, RVs, and other relevant indoor environments.

Setup and Installation

The KOABBIT Combination Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector is designed for simple plug-and-play installation.

  1. Unpack the Detector: Carefully remove the detector from its packaging.
  2. Choose a Location:
    • For Carbon Monoxide (CO) detection: CO is slightly lighter than air and mixes well with air. Install the detector at least 5 feet (1.5 meters) from the floor, ideally at eye level, to ensure optimal detection.
    • For Combustible Gas detection: Natural gas and methane are lighter than air and tend to rise. Propane and LPG are heavier than air and tend to sink. For comprehensive detection, consider installing the detector at a height appropriate for the primary gas type in your area, or consider multiple detectors at different heights if both types are a concern. Avoid installing near windows, doors, or ventilation openings where drafts might affect readings.
    • Ensure the location is within 10 feet (3 meters) of a gas-burning appliance but not directly above it.
  3. Plug In the Detector: Insert the detector into a standard electrical outlet. The plug can rotate freely for convenient installation in various outlet orientations.
  4. Initial Power-On Sequence: Upon plugging in, the detector will perform a self-test. The display will cycle through numbers (e.g., 1111, 2222, etc.) and the alarm may sound briefly. This indicates the unit is functioning correctly. Once the test is complete, the display will show "0000" or be blank, and the green "POWER" light will illuminate.

Operating Instructions

Indicator Lights:

  • POWER (Green): Illuminates when the detector is powered on and functioning normally.
  • FAULT (Yellow): Illuminates if there is a malfunction or error with the detector. Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
  • ALARM (Red): Illuminates and the alarm sounds when dangerous levels of gas or carbon monoxide are detected.

LCD Digital Display:

The LCD screen displays the concentration of detected gas in parts per million (PPM) for carbon monoxide or percentage of Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) for combustible gases. When no dangerous gas is detected, the display will typically be blank or show "0000" to conserve power.

Self-Test Button:

Press the "SELF-TEST" button to manually test the alarm and display functionality. During the self-test, the alarm will sound, and the display will cycle through numbers. This confirms the internal circuitry and alarm are working correctly. It is recommended to perform a self-test weekly.

Alarm Conditions and Actions

The detector is designed to alert you to potentially dangerous gas levels. Understand the alarm conditions and appropriate responses:

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm:

  • 50 ppm: Alarm within 60-90 minutes.
  • 100 ppm: Alarm within 10-40 minutes.
  • ≥150 ppm: Alarm within 3 seconds.

Combustible Gas Alarm:

  • ≥5% LEL: Alarm within 1 second.

If the Alarm Sounds:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Turn off all fuel-burning appliances if safe to do so.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  4. If the alarm continues, or if you suspect a gas leak or CO poisoning, call your gas supplier or fire department immediately.
  5. Seek medical attention for anyone experiencing symptoms of gas poisoning (headache, nausea, dizziness).

Applications

The KOABBIT Combination Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector is suitable for a variety of indoor environments where gas or carbon monoxide may be present:

  • Homes
  • Kitchens
  • Apartments
  • Recreational Vehicles (RVs)
  • Offices

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the optimal performance and longevity of your detector.

  • Weekly Test: Press the "SELF-TEST" button once a week to ensure the alarm and display are functioning correctly.
  • Monthly Cleaning: Gently vacuum or wipe the exterior of the detector, especially around the air inlet, to remove dust and debris. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Avoid Obstruction: Ensure the air inlet is never blocked by furniture, curtains, or other objects.
  • Do Not Disassemble: Do not attempt to open or repair the detector. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Yellow "FAULT" light is on.Internal malfunction or sensor error.Unplug the detector for 30 seconds and plug it back in. If the fault persists, the unit may need replacement.
Alarm sounds without visible gas or CO source.Low-level gas presence, false alarm, or detector malfunction.Ventilate the area. Perform a self-test. If the alarm continues, treat it as a real alarm and follow safety procedures. Ensure no strong fumes (e.g., cleaning products) are near the detector.
Display is blank or not showing "0000".Power saving mode or no power. This is normal in power-saving mode. Check if the power outlet is working. If the green "POWER" light is off, check the power supply.
Alarm is too quiet or not sounding during self-test.Speaker malfunction.Ensure the speaker is not obstructed. If the issue persists, the unit may be defective and require replacement.
