Basic Vacuum Sealing Process:

  1. Prepare the Bag: Place the items to be sealed into a vacuum-sealable bag. Ensure the open end of the bag is clean and dry.
  2. Place Bag in Chamber: Open the lid of the vacuum sealer. Lay the open end of the bag flat across the sealing bar inside the chamber. Ensure the bag is smooth and free of wrinkles over the sealing area.

Image 5.2: Correct placement of a vacuum bag with food onto the sealing bar within the chamber.

  4. Close the Lid: Gently close the transparent lid. The machine will automatically detect the closed lid and may initiate the cycle or wait for the START command.
  5. Set Parameters (if needed): Use the SET, INCREASE, and DECREASE buttons to adjust the vacuum time, sealing time, and cooling time according to the type of food and bag material. For most items, default settings are a good starting point.
  6. Start Sealing: Press the START button. The machine will begin the vacuum process, indicated by the vacuum gauge. Once the vacuum cycle is complete, the sealing cycle will automatically begin, followed by a cooling period.
  7. Open and Remove: After the cycle is complete and the vacuum gauge returns to zero, the lid will release. Open the lid and carefully remove the sealed bag.

Tips for Optimal Sealing:

  • For liquids or moist foods, consider pre-freezing them slightly to prevent liquids from being drawn into the pump.
  • Ensure the sealing area of the bag is completely dry and free of food particles to achieve a strong seal.
  • Do not overfill bags; leave at least 3 inches of space between the food and the top of the bag for proper sealing.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your vacuum sealer.

Cleaning:

  • Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
  • Wipe the exterior and interior of the chamber with a soft, damp cloth. Use mild soap if necessary, then wipe with a clean, damp cloth to remove any residue.
  • Clean the sealing bar and the rubber gasket regularly to ensure a proper seal. Food particles or moisture can compromise the seal.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can scratch the stainless steel or organic glass lid.

Vacuum Pump Oil Check and Replacement:

The vacuum pump requires oil to operate efficiently. Regularly check the oil level and clarity through the sight glass (if available) on the pump.

  • If the oil level is low or the oil appears cloudy/discolored, it needs to be topped up or replaced.
  • Refer to the specific instructions provided with your machine or pump oil for the correct procedure for draining and refilling the pump oil.
  • Use only recommended vacuum pump oil.

Sealing Strip/Wire Replacement:

The sealing strip and heating wire are wear-and-tear parts. If seals become inconsistent or the wire breaks, they need replacement.

  • Unplug the machine.
  • Carefully remove the old sealing strip and heating wire from the sealing bar.
  • Install the new heating wire, ensuring it is taut and properly seated.
  • Place the new sealing strip over the heating wire.
