4. Setup

  1. Before first use, remove the LifeStraw Sip from its packaging.
  2. Remove the silicone caps from both ends of the straw.
  3. Submerge the filter end (the end with the small holes) in water for a few seconds to prime the filter. This helps water flow more easily.
  4. The filter is designed to be used directly in a water source or a glass of water.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Locate a fresh water source (stream, river, lake, tap water). Do not use with saltwater.
  2. Place the filter end of the LifeStraw Sip into the water. Ensure the water level is above the filter end.
  3. Place the mouthpiece end into your mouth and sip slowly. The first few sips may require more effort as the filter draws water through.
  4. Continue sipping until your thirst is quenched.

6. Maintenance

  • After each use, blow air through the mouthpiece to clear any remaining water from the filter. This helps prevent clogging and keeps the filter clean.
  • Store the LifeStraw Sip in its leak-proof carry case to protect it from damage and contamination.
  • The filter is designed to last up to 1,000 liters. Replace the straw when the flow rate significantly decreases or the filter reaches its capacity.
  • Do not wash the filter with soap or harsh chemicals, as this can damage the filter membrane.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Slow Water Flow: If water flow is slow, ensure the filter is properly primed by submerging it in water for a few seconds before use. Also, try blowing air through the mouthpiece to dislodge any trapped air or debris.
  • No Water Flow: Check if the filter end is fully submerged in water. Ensure there are no blockages in the straw or mouthpiece.
  • Unpleasant Taste: While the filter removes contaminants, some natural tastes from the water source may remain. If the taste is strong or unusual, consider finding an alternative water source.
