Setup

  1. Safety First: Ensure the vehicle's engine is cool before beginning any work on the cooling system. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
  2. Identify Components: Familiarize yourself with all components of the kit using the 'Product Components' section.
  3. Select Adapter: Choose the correct radiator adapter that fits your vehicle's radiator or expansion tank opening. The kit includes 22 specific adapters and one universal adapter for broad compatibility.
  4. Connect Pump/Tool: Depending on the task (pressure testing or coolant refilling), connect the manual vacuum pump or the vacuum purge and refill tool to the selected adapter. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
  5. Prepare Vehicle: Ensure the cooling system is accessible and any necessary components (e.g., radiator cap) are removed.

Operating Instructions

A. Pressure Leak Testing

  1. Attach Adapter: Securely attach the appropriate radiator adapter to the radiator filler neck or expansion tank.
  2. Connect Hand Pump: Connect the manual vacuum pump to the adapter.
  3. Pressurize System: Pump the hand pump until the pressure gauge reaches the vehicle manufacturer's specified pressure (typically indicated on the radiator cap or in the service manual). Do not exceed the recommended pressure.
  4. Monitor Pressure: Observe the pressure gauge for at least 5-10 minutes. A drop in pressure indicates a leak in the cooling system.
  5. Locate Leak: Visually inspect all cooling system components (hoses, radiator, heater core, water pump, head gasket area) for signs of coolant leakage.
  6. Release Pressure: Once testing is complete, carefully release the pressure by pressing the pressure relief valve on the pump.

B. Coolant Refilling (Vacuum Purge Method)

  1. Drain System: Ensure the cooling system is completely drained of old coolant.
  2. Attach Adapter: Securely attach the appropriate radiator adapter to the radiator filler neck or expansion tank.
  3. Connect Vacuum Purge Tool: Connect the vacuum purge and refill tool to the adapter. Connect an air compressor (not included) to the air intake joint on the tool.
  4. Create Vacuum: Open the valve on the vacuum purge tool to allow compressed air to create a vacuum in the cooling system. Monitor the vacuum gauge until it reaches the desired level (typically -25 to -28 inHg or -63 to -71 cmHg). Close the valve.
  5. Check for Leaks: Allow the system to hold vacuum for 2-5 minutes. If the vacuum gauge drops, there is a leak in the system that must be repaired before refilling.
  6. Refill Coolant: Once the vacuum holds steady, place the refill hose into a container of new coolant. Open the refill valve on the tool. The vacuum will draw the coolant into the system, ensuring an air-free fill.
  7. Disconnect: Once the system is filled, close the refill valve, disconnect the air compressor, and then carefully remove the adapter.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean all adapters, hoses, and tools with a damp cloth to remove any coolant residue. Do not use harsh chemicals that may damage rubber or plastic components.
  • Drying: Ensure all components are completely dry before storing to prevent corrosion or degradation.
  • Storage: Store the kit in its original custom-molded carrying case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • O-Ring Inspection: Periodically inspect O-rings for cracks, wear, or damage. Replace any worn O-rings with the provided spares to maintain a proper seal.

Troubleshooting

A. Pressure Test Issues

  • Cannot Build Pressure:
    • Check all connections for tightness, especially the adapter to the radiator/expansion tank and the pump to the adapter.
    • Inspect the adapter's O-ring for damage or improper seating.
    • Ensure the radiator cap (if used for testing) is properly sealed.
  • Pressure Drops Quickly (No Visible Leak):
    • A small, internal leak (e.g., head gasket, heater core) might not be immediately visible. Check for coolant smell inside the cabin or white smoke from the exhaust.
    • Re-check all connections on the testing equipment itself.

B. Coolant Refill Issues (Vacuum Purge)

  • Cannot Create Vacuum:
    • Ensure the air compressor is connected and providing sufficient pressure.
    • Verify all connections on the vacuum purge tool and adapter are sealed.
    • Check the vacuum purge tool's internal components for blockages or damage.
  • Vacuum Does Not Hold:
    • This indicates a leak in the cooling system. Repair the leak before attempting to refill.
    • Ensure the adapter is correctly seated and its O-ring is intact.
  • Coolant Does Not Draw In:
    • Ensure the refill hose is fully submerged in the coolant container.
    • Verify the refill valve on the tool is fully open.
    • Check for blockages in the refill hose.
