3. Setup
3.1 Charging the Devices
Before first use, fully charge both the transmitter and receiver using the provided USB-C charging cables. Connect the cables to a standard USB power adapter (not included). The charging indicator light will show charging status and turn off when fully charged. A full charge takes approximately 1.5 hours.
3.2 Powering On/Off
- To power on: Press and hold the power button on both the transmitter and receiver until the indicator light illuminates.
- To power off: Press and hold the power button on both units until the indicator light turns off.
3.3 Pairing
The transmitter and receiver are pre-paired at the factory. If pairing is lost or you are using new units, follow these steps:
- Ensure both the transmitter and receiver are powered on.
- The indicator lights on both units will blink slowly, indicating they are searching for each other.
- Once successfully paired, the indicator lights will turn solid blue.
3.4 Connecting to Your Device
Select the appropriate output cable based on your recording device:
- For Smartphones/Tablets: Use the 3.5mm TRS to TRRS output cable. Plug the TRS end into the receiver's output jack and the TRRS end into your smartphone's 3.5mm audio jack. For devices without a 3.5mm jack (e.g., newer iPhones, USB-C Android phones), you will need a compatible adapter (sold separately).
- For DSLR Cameras/Camcorders: Use the 3.5mm TRS to TRS output cable. Plug one TRS end into the receiver's output jack and the other TRS end into your camera's microphone input jack.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Wearing the Transmitter
Clip the transmitter onto your clothing, ideally near your chest, to capture clear audio. For outdoor use or in windy conditions, attach the provided fur windshield to the transmitter's built-in microphone to reduce wind noise.
4.2 Noise Cancellation
The transmitter features a noise cancellation function to reduce ambient background noise. Short press the 'NR' button on the transmitter to activate or deactivate noise cancellation. When active, the indicator light will change color (refer to device for specific color indication). This feature helps to capture a purer sound, especially in noisy environments.

4.3 Mute Function
To temporarily stop audio transmission without powering off the unit, short press the mute button on the transmitter. Press it again to unmute. This is useful for brief pauses in recording or live streaming.
4.4 Gain Adjustment
The transmitter allows for 7 levels of gain adjustment to optimize your audio input level. Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the side of the transmitter to increase or decrease the gain. Adjust the gain to prevent audio clipping (distortion) and ensure a clear recording.

Figure 4.2: Gain Adjustment Levels.
4.5 Real-Time Monitoring
The receiver is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Plug in headphones to monitor your audio in real-time. This allows you to verify audio quality and levels during recording, ensuring a smooth and successful session.

Figure 4.3: Real-Time Audio Monitoring.
4.6 Mono/Stereo Output
The receiver allows you to switch between mono and stereo output modes. This is particularly useful for post-production audio editing. In mono mode, both left and right channels carry the same audio signal. In stereo mode, the audio from each transmitter (if using a dual-channel system) is separated into distinct left and right channels.

4.7 Wireless Transmission
The BY-M1V system utilizes 2.4GHz digital transmission, providing a stable wireless signal transmission range of up to 196 feet (60 meters) in open, barrier-free environments. For optimal performance, maintain a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver.

5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BOYA BY-M1V system, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the units. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the microphone system in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture. Use the provided carrying pouch for protection during transport and storage.
- Battery Care: For long-term storage, charge the batteries to approximately 50% every three months to prevent deep discharge, which can reduce battery life.
- Handling: Handle the units with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting them to strong impacts.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your BOYA BY-M1V system, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Sound/Low Sound:
- Ensure both transmitter and receiver are powered on and successfully paired (solid blue indicator light).
- Check that the correct audio output cable (TRS for camera, TRRS for smartphone) is securely connected to both the receiver and your recording device.
- Verify that the transmitter is not muted.
- Adjust the gain level on the transmitter using the '+' button.
- Check the microphone input settings on your recording device (camera/smartphone) to ensure the external microphone is selected and input levels are adequate.
- If using an iPhone with a Lightning adapter, ensure the adapter is MFi certified and functioning correctly. Some users report issues with playback when the receiver is connected; disconnect the receiver to hear recorded audio.
- Distorted Sound/Clipping:
- Reduce the gain level on the transmitter using the '-' button.
- Ensure the microphone is not too close to the sound source.
- Interference/Poor Signal:
- Ensure there are no major obstacles (walls, large metal objects) between the transmitter and receiver.
- Move away from other 2.4GHz wireless devices (Wi-Fi routers, other wireless microphones) that might cause interference.
- Ensure you are within the effective operating range (up to 196 feet/60 meters without barriers).
- Battery Not Charging:
- Check the USB-C charging cable and power adapter for damage.
- Ensure the charging port on the unit is clean and free of debris.
- Try a different USB power source.
