6. Operating Instructions

This section details how to brew espresso and froth milk.

6.1 Brewing Espresso

  1. Add Water: Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh, cold water.
  2. Add Beans: Fill the bean hopper with fresh whole coffee beans.
  3. Select Grind Setting: Adjust the grind setting based on your beans and desired extraction. A finer grind (lower number) is typically for espresso. The machine offers 30 grind settings.
  4. Grind Coffee: Place the portafilter with the desired filter basket (single or double shot) under the grinder. Press the single or double shot grind button to dispense coffee.
  5. Tamp: Use the included tamper to press the ground coffee firmly and evenly into the portafilter. Aim for a level and consistent puck.
  6. Insert Portafilter: Securely insert the portafilter into the group head by twisting it to the right until it is tight.
  7. Place Cup: Position your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
  8. Select Brew: Press the single or double shot brew button. The machine will pre-infuse and then extract the espresso. Monitor the pressure gauge for optimal extraction (typically in the middle of the "Espresso" range).
  9. Enjoy: Once the desired volume is reached, the machine will stop automatically.

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your machine.

7.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove spent coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Purge the wand briefly by turning on the steam to clear any internal blockages.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

7.2 Group Head Cleaning

Perform a backflush regularly to clean the group head.

  1. Insert the blind filter basket (solid, no holes) into the portafilter.
  2. Add a small amount of espresso machine cleaning detergent (if recommended by manufacturer, otherwise just water).
  3. Insert the portafilter into the group head.
  4. Press the single shot button for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat 3-5 times.
  5. Remove the portafilter, rinse, and repeat the process with plain water to remove any detergent residue.

7.3 Descaling

Descaling removes mineral buildup from the internal components. The machine has an auto-clean function.

  • When the indicator light lights up, the machine needs cleaning/descaling.
  • To enter self-cleaning mode, press and hold both the "Setup" button and the "Single Cup" button simultaneously.
  • Follow the instructions in the manual or on the machine's display for the descaling process.
