Figure 4: The control panel features indicator lights for flow rate, wave mode, backwash mode, light sensor, feed mode, and key lock. Buttons include Speed/Feed, M/S/N/LOCK, Mode/Light, and a Frequency Setting Knob.
  • Frequency Setting Knob: Adjusts the wave frequency from Fast to Slow.
  • Mode/Light Button: Press briefly to change the wave mode (M1-M5). Hold for 3 seconds to activate the light sensor.
  • M/S/N/LOCK Button: Press briefly to select the control mode (Master/Slave/Normal). Hold for 3 seconds to activate the button lock.
  • Speed/Feed Button: Press briefly to increase the flow rate. Hold for 3 seconds for a 10-minute feeding stop.
  • M6/Backwash Button: Press briefly to lower the flow rate. Hold for 3 seconds to activate the backwash cleaning mode.

5. Operating Modes

The AQQA Wave Maker offers 5 distinct wave modes to simulate natural aquatic environments.

Figure 5: Visual representation of the 6 wave-making modes available, designed to simulate natural water currents and vortices for a dynamic aquarium environment.
  • M1 (Constant Wave): Provides a steady, continuous flow.
  • M2 (Pulse Wave): Generates intermittent pulses of flow.
  • M3 (Anti-Synchronized Pulse Wave): Creates alternating pulses, ideal for dual pump setups.
  • M4 (Sine Wave): Produces a smooth, oscillating flow pattern.
  • M5 (Random Wave): Varies flow patterns randomly for a natural, unpredictable current.
  • M6 (Reverse Wave / Backwash): Used for cleaning, pushing debris away from the pump.

Video 2: This video illustrates the different wave modes (M1-M6) and their effects on water movement in an aquarium, demonstrating how each mode simulates various natural currents.

6. Adjustable Flow Rate and Frequency

The controller allows for fine-tuning of the water flow rate and wave frequency to suit your aquarium's specific needs.

  • Flow Rate Adjustment: Use the Speed/Feed button to increase or decrease the water flow intensity. The display will show the current flow rate percentage.
  • Frequency Adjustment: Rotate the Frequency Setting Knob to adjust the speed and pattern of the waves.

Adjustable Settings Demonstration Video:

Video 3: This video demonstrates how to adjust the flow rate and frequency using the controller, showcasing the impact of different settings on water movement in the aquarium.

7. Special Features

Feeding Mode:

To activate feeding mode, hold the Speed/Feed button for 3 seconds. The pump will pause for 10 minutes, allowing fish to feed without strong currents dispersing food. After 10 minutes, the pump will resume its previous operating mode.

Night Mode with Light Sensor:

The controller features a light sensor. Hold the Mode/Light button for 3 seconds to activate the light sensor. When the ambient light dims, the pump will automatically switch to a lower, constant flow mode (e.g., 30%) to simulate nighttime conditions and reduce stress on aquatic life.

Auto Cleaning Function (M6):

Press and hold the M6 button to activate the backwash cleaning mode. This function helps to dislodge and remove debris and deposits from the pump housing, maintaining efficiency and extending the lifespan of the wave maker.

360° Rotating Pump Head:

The pump head can be rotated 360 degrees, allowing you to direct the water flow precisely where needed to create optimal circulation patterns and eliminate dead spots in your aquarium.

8. Maintenance

Regular cleaning is essential to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your AQQA Wave Maker.

  1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the power adapter before cleaning.
  2. Remove from Aquarium: Carefully remove the pump unit from the aquarium.
  3. Disassemble: Gently twist and pull apart the front cover, impeller, and pump body.
  4. Clean Components: Rinse all parts under clean water. Use a soft brush to remove any algae, debris, or calcium buildup from the impeller, impeller shaft, and pump housing. For stubborn buildup, a mild vinegar solution can be used, followed by thorough rinsing.
  5. Inspect: Check the rubber rings and suction cups for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  6. Reassemble: Carefully reassemble all components, ensuring they fit securely.
  7. Reinstall: Place the cleaned pump back into the aquarium and reconnect power.
