Senzooe TPS63020

Senzooe TPS63020 Automatic Buck-Boost Converter Module

Instruction Manual - 2.5V Output Variant

1. Introduction

The Senzooe TPS63020 Automatic Buck-Boost Converter Module is a highly efficient power management solution designed to provide a stable output voltage from an input voltage that can be either higher or lower than the desired output. This module is ideal for battery-powered applications where the input voltage fluctuates. This specific variant is configured for a 2.5V output.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure proper polarity when connecting power to avoid damage to the module and connected devices.
  • Do not exceed the maximum input or output current ratings. Refer to the TPS63020 datasheet for detailed specifications.
  • Avoid short circuits on the input or output terminals.
  • Handle the module with care to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation, especially when operating at higher currents, to prevent overheating.

3. Product Overview

The TPS63020 module automatically switches between buck (step-down) and boost (step-up) modes to maintain a constant output voltage. It features a compact design, making it suitable for integration into various electronic projects. The module includes input (VIN), output (VOUT), ground (GND), and control pins (EN, PS, PG).

4. Setup and Connections

Carefully identify the pins on the module before making any connections. The module has clearly labeled pads for input, output, ground, and control signals.

Figure 1: Top view of the TPS63020 module, showing input (VIN), output (VOUT), grounding (GND), and control pins (EN, PS, PG). Also visible are solder pads for selecting output voltages (2.5V, 3.3V, 4.2V, 5.0V).

Pin Descriptions:

  • VIN: Power Input. Connect your input voltage source here.
  • VOUT: Power Output. This is where the regulated 2.5V output voltage will be available.
  • GND: Ground. Connect to the common ground of your system.
  • EN (Enable): Enable pin. Typically, pulling this pin high (to VIN or a logic high) enables the converter, and pulling it low disables it. Refer to the TPS63020 datasheet for specific logic levels.
  • PS (Power Save): Power Save mode control. This pin can be used to switch between normal operation and power-saving mode. Refer to the TPS63020 datasheet for specific usage.
  • PG (Power Good): Power Good indicator. This pin typically signals when the output voltage is within regulation. Refer to the TPS63020 datasheet for specific behavior.

Output Voltage Selection:

The module is pre-configured for a 2.5V output. However, the board provides solder pads to select other common output voltages (3.3V, 4.2V, 5.0V) by bridging the appropriate pads. Modifying the output voltage requires soldering skills and careful attention to the board markings. Ensure the module is disconnected from power before attempting any modifications.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Connect Input Power: Connect your DC input voltage source to the VIN and GND pins, observing correct polarity. The input voltage must be within the operating range specified in the TPS63020 datasheet.
  2. Connect Load: Connect your load device to the VOUT and GND pins.
  3. Enable Module (if applicable): If the EN pin is used, ensure it is pulled high to enable the converter. If left floating or pulled low, the module may remain disabled.
  4. Verify Output: Use a multimeter to verify that the output voltage at VOUT is approximately 2.5V before connecting sensitive components.
  5. Power Save Mode (Optional): If desired, control the PS pin according to the TPS63020 datasheet to enter or exit power-saving mode.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the module clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Avoid exposing the module to moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Regularly inspect connections for any signs of wear or corrosion.
  • No user-serviceable parts are inside the module. Do not attempt to disassemble it.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Output Voltage:
    • Check input voltage (VIN) to ensure it is present and within the operating range.
    • Verify GND connection.
    • Ensure the EN pin is correctly enabled (pulled high).
    • Check for short circuits on the output.
  • Incorrect Output Voltage:
    • Confirm the module is the 2.5V variant.
    • Ensure no accidental solder bridges are present on the output voltage selection pads.
    • Check the load current; exceeding the maximum output current can cause voltage drop.
  • Module Overheating:
    • Reduce the load current.
    • Ensure adequate airflow around the module.
    • Verify input and output voltages are within specified limits.
