Setup and First Use
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the iron from its packaging. Remove any protective films or stickers from the soleplate.
- Water Filling: Ensure the iron is unplugged. Open the water filling inlet and fill the water tank with tap water up to the 'MAX' level indicator. Do not overfill. For areas with hard water, consider using a mix of tap water and distilled water (50/50).
- First Heating: Plug the iron into a suitable mains socket. Set the temperature dial to the maximum setting. Allow the iron to heat up completely. During the first use, a slight odor or smoke may be emitted; this is normal and will disappear after a short period.
- Initial Steam Burst: To clean the steam vents, press the steam boost button a few times over an old cloth. This helps remove any manufacturing residues.
Operating Instructions
Temperature Setting
- Sort your laundry according to fabric type and recommended ironing temperature.
- Turn the temperature dial to the appropriate setting for your fabric. Refer to the fabric care labels on your garments.
- The indicator light will illuminate while the iron is heating and turn off when the desired temperature is reached.
Steam Ironing
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Set the temperature dial to a steam-compatible setting (usually indicated by steam symbols on the dial).
- Once the iron reaches the set temperature, you can activate the continuous steam by moving the steam control lever.
- For stubborn creases, use the Steam Boost function by pressing the dedicated button.
- The Vertical Steam function allows you to steam hanging garments. Hold the iron vertically a few centimeters from the fabric and press the steam boost button.
Dry Ironing
- If you wish to dry iron, ensure the steam control lever is set to the 'no steam' position.
- Set the temperature dial to the desired setting.
Spray Function
- Press the spray button to moisten stubborn creases. Ensure the water tank contains water.
Care and Maintenance
Cleaning the Soleplate
- After each use, allow the iron to cool down completely.
- Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metallic scouring pads, as these can damage the Durilium Airglide coating.
- If starch or synthetic fibers have melted onto the soleplate, clean it with a soft damp cloth while the iron is still warm (but unplugged).
Descaling (Self-Clean Function)
Regular descaling helps maintain optimal steam performance and prolongs the life of your iron. The Tefal FV 5781 Easygliss Eco features an integrated anti-calc system.
- Fill the water tank to the MAX level.
- Plug in the iron and set the temperature to maximum. Allow it to heat until the indicator light goes out.
- Unplug the iron. Hold it horizontally over a sink.
- Activate the self-clean function (refer to the specific button/lever on your iron, usually marked "Self Clean" or similar). Shake the iron gently over the sink until all the water and scale have been flushed out.
- Plug the iron back in and let it heat up to dry the soleplate. Unplug and let it cool down.
Storage
- After use, unplug the iron and empty any remaining water from the tank.
- Allow the iron to cool down completely before storing.
- Store the iron vertically on its heel rest in a safe, dry place.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | Not plugged in; power outlet faulty; temperature dial set to minimum. | Check power connection; try a different outlet; turn temperature dial to a higher setting. |
| No steam or insufficient steam. | Water tank empty; temperature too low for steam; steam control set to 'no steam'; calc build-up. | Fill water tank; set temperature to steam-compatible range; move steam control to steam position; perform descaling. |
| Water leaks from soleplate. | Temperature too low for steam; iron tilted too much; water tank overfilled. | Ensure iron is hot enough for steam; keep iron horizontal during steam use; do not overfill water tank. |
| White flakes coming from soleplate. | Calc build-up in the water tank/steam chamber. | Perform the descaling (self-clean) procedure. |
| Soleplate is dirty. | Residue from fabrics or starch. | Clean the soleplate as described in the Maintenance section. |
